Obituary For Ange Mae Jenkins

Mrs. Ange Mae Jenkins 94, of Columbus, GA passed on Thursday, April 17, 2025 in Columbus, GA.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. EST on Saturday, April, 26, 2025 at Pine Hill Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. J.C. Fryer, pastor, officiating. Burial in Evergreen Memorial Park, 4500 St. Marys Road, Columbus, GA. Public visitation is from 12 - 5 p.m. EST, Friday, April 25, 2025.

On April 17, 2025, Mrs. Ange Mae Jenkins, a faithful daughter of the King, exchanged her earthly journey, for her heavenly reward at the age of 94. Her life, a testament to God’s grace, love, and enduring faith. She was born February 4, 1931, in Columbus, GA to Charlie and Daisy Dotson. After graduating from William H. Spencer High School in June1950, in December that same year, she married Elias Jenkins “Bro”, whose melodious bass voice captured her heart. To their union were two sons, Edward Fitzgerald and Daryl Allen.

In 1951, she graduated from the Peggy Floyd School of Beauty, Columbus, GA and worked for over 50 years as a licensed cosmetologist in Columbus, GA and Indianapolis, IN, where she later moved with her husband who enjoyed a long career as a big rig truck driver.

While in Indianapolis she received certification as a home maker aid from the Indianapolis Public School System which was the beginning of her food service career.

Upon relocating to the Columbus/Phenix City area to begin a family, she began her career as a food service assistant in the Muscogee County School System, where her boys were students, and later became assistant manager of Eddie Jr. High School cafeteria. Her dedication earned her an appointment with the State Association of Food Service workers representing Muscogee County. Cooking was her passion. She was the requested caterer for family and church functions. Some of her classics were macaroni and cheese, cornbread dressing, and sweet potato pie. After retirement from the school system, she secured a long-term contract with a community church and when the word got around about her fried chicken, “Wednesday night attendance doubled”.

She had the honor of chairing the hospitality and food committee when the new fellowship hall was completed at Pine Hill Missionary Baptist Church where she and her husband served faithfully.

She often said, “it’s not hard work when you love what you do.” Her faith also led her to serve in the East Alabama Missionary Baptist Association for many years. Her loving spirit, dedication to her family, and heartfelt service to the community will continue to inspire all who knew her.

Survivors include a son, Edward Fitzgerald, Pompano, FL, a sister, Deborah Torbert, Baytown, TX, grandchildren, Kimberly Davis-Ellerbe (Prince), Columbus, GA, Tatyana Jenkins -Iverson (Joshua), Bryana Jenkins, Seattle, WA, Deziree Edwards, Roanoke Rapids, NC, Evans Michael Johnson, San Francisco, CA, Desmond Alexander, Columbus, GA, Edward Jenkins, Jr., Atlanta, GA, a devoted former daughter in law, Anna Jenkins, Seattle, WA, five great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and two beloved nieces, Deloris Doleman (Dan), and Gwendolyn Johnson (James), Fortson, GA.

She has entered into the joy of her Lord, and her spirit lives in the hearts of those she loved and served.
