"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing."
— 2 Timothy 4:7-8 (KJV)
Echoing the words of 2 Timothy 4:7-8, it is with grateful hearts that we celebrate the life of Mrs. Annie Ruth Florence Caldwell, a devoted woman of faith, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who answered the call of the Master, on June 22, 2026, transitioning from labor to eternal rest.
Annie was born on September 15, 1953, in Russell County, Alabama to the late Annie Florence. From her earliest days, Annie exhibited a gentle spirit and strong character that would define her life and leave a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Annie was educated in the Russell County School System. At an early age she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and united with Zion Springs Baptist Church, where her lifelong journey of faith began. Throughout the years, her faith remained as the foundation of her life. She was known for always lending a helping hand and the joyful laughter that would erupt during conversations she had with those she loved.
A diligent and hardworking woman, Annie dedicated over 30 years of service to Johnson Mills before embracing one of her greatest joys—caring for children. She poured her heart into everything she did, always placing the needs of others before her own.
Before her health declined, Annie could often be found traveling countless miles to support her daughter Bernina, as she ministered through music, playing the piano at local churches. Accompanying Bernina to different churches and watching her use her gifts was one of her greatest pleasures.
Annie's life was a beautiful example of love, dedication, and selflessness. Through her commitment to God and family she created a legacy of strength and grace that will continue to inspire those who were blessed to know her.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Menzie Lee Caldwell, Jr.; one son, Menzie “Anthony” (Tamicka) Caldwell, III of LaGrange, GA; one daughter, Bernina Caldwell of Seale, Alabama; one granddaughter, Makiah Caldwell of Los Angeles, CA; four sisters, Thelma Johnson and Fannie Warren, both of Columbus, GA; Mary Ivey of Phenix City, AL; and Evelyn (Herman) Upshaw of Lithonia, GA; two brothers, Curtis (Sonya) Florence of Seale, AL; and Richard (Bernice) Florence of Columbus, GA; three sisters-in-law, Lillie Caldwell Smith of Phenix City, AL; Diane Caldwell of Seale, AL; and Lola (Nathaniel) Hutton of Birmingham, AL; one brother-in-law, Reverend John Caldwell of Birmingham, AL; her best friend, Ozell Allen; a special sister, Cathy McClendon; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends who will forever treasure her love and the many memories they shared.
“Well done, thou good and faithful servant…enter thou into the joy of thy Lord."
— Matthew 25:21 (KJV)
