Benjamin Jackson, 97, of Phenix City, AL passed on Wednesday, June 17, 2026 in Phenix City, AL.
Funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. EST on Friday, June 26, 2026 at Nichols Chapel A.M.E. Church with Rev. Wendell Jones, Pastor, officiating. Burial to follow in Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell, AL. Public viewing will be from 10:00 a.m. EST till 11:30 a.m. EST on the day of service.
Mr. Benjamin Jackson, son of the late Love Phillips, Sr. and Sallie Seay, was born on May 2, 1929, in Phenix City, Alabama. He peacefully entered into eternal rest on June 17, 2026, at Canterbury Health Care Facility and Rehabilitation Center in Phenix City, Alabama.
At an early age, Benjamin accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and united with Nichols Chapel AME Church, where he remained a faithful and devoted member throughout his life. He faithfully served on the Trustee Board for many years and was actively involved in the life of the church, regularly attending Sunday Church School, Bible Study, and participating as a member of the Auxiliary Board.
Benjamin received his education through the Phenix City Public School System. He later answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army, where he honorably served for more than 20 years, including service during the Vietnam War.
Known for his strong work ethic, integrity, and quiet strength, Benjamin instilled in his sons the importance of hard work, respect, and good moral character. He was a man of few words, but his wisdom carried great weight. As the saying goes, "When Benjamin spoke, people listened."
A gifted mechanic with a passion for his craft, Benjamin fulfilled his dream of entrepreneurship by opening Third Avenue Auto Repair in 1975. He faithfully operated the business for 45 years until the building was destroyed by fire in 2020. Undeterred by the loss, his dedication to serving others never wavered. He continued repairing automobiles under a makeshift shelter because helping people and working on cars were among his life's greatest joys. In addition to operating his repair shop, Benjamin was employed as a nighttime custodian at Columbus College.
In 1963, Benjamin was united in Holy Matrimony to the love of his life, Anna Mae Jackson. Together they built a loving home and were blessed with three sons.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Anna Mae Jackson; his son, Benjamin Jackson, Jr.; and his grandson, Marcus Washington.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories two devoted sons, Horatio (Ardenia) Jackson and Darius Jackson; eight grandchildren: Christie Olivero, Tiffany Toney, Tia Toney, Brandi Washington, April Washington, Keisha Walton, Kimberly Walton, and Tiffany Walton; twelve great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other loving relatives, dear friends, and all whose lives were touched by his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering faith.
