With hearts full of love and gratitude, we announce the peaceful passing of Betty L. Hurt on June 12, 2026 , at the age of 74. Betty left this world as she lived in it-----surrounded by the warmth and comfort of her beloved family in Phenix City, AL.
Born on February 15, 1952, to Johnnie and Emma Newsome, Betty was beacon of strength and love, forever cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Betty was predeceased by her devoted husband, Billy F. Hurt, with whom she shared a remarkable journey beginning in 1967. Together, they built a life rich with love, laughter, and memories, raising two beautiful daughters, Letiona Hurt and Tanisha (Illya) Lawerence who carry forward their parent's legacy of resilience and compassion.
Known for her quick wit and steadfast personality, Betty was a force of nature----a woman of small stature but immense spirit. She was unwavering in her dedication to her family, always willing to do whatever it took to achieve her dreams and ensure the happiness of those she loved. Her grandchildren, who affectionately called her โHoneyโ, were the light of the life: Arkious Oates, Amber Oates, Nigel Lawrence, and Summer Lawrence. Betty took great pride in her two great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy and laughter.
In addition to her daughters and grandchildren, Betty is survived by her cherished sister-in-laws, Sandra (Raymond) Crowell and Laura (James) Hurt, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. A very special bond was shared with her loving niece, Sybil Bethay, whose care and devotion were a source of comfort in Betty's final days.
Betty was predeceased by her parents, Johnnie and Emma Newsome, her beloved husband, Billy; her sister, Joann Ferris, and several other dear family members. Despite these profound losses, Betty remained a pillar of strength and an exemplar pf how to live life with grace and gratitude.
The family of Betty L. Hurt extends their heartfelt thanks to Sybil Bethay, special cousin, Dorothy Mott, a dear loving soul, Erica Crawford Woods and her dedicated nurse, Christine, for their unwavering support and care during Betty's final chapter of Life.
In this time of farewell, we celebrate a life well-lived and a woman who touched our hearts with her kindness and tenacity. Betty L. Hurt may have left our physical world, but her spirit and love will continue to guide and inspire us every day. Rest in peace, dear Betty.
