My heart hurts... Calvin and I were "forever friend" as he would always say. The last time that I saw him, he told me to take care of myself because I was working too many hours. I will always remember Calvin with his infectious smile. He worked a few years on night shift before transferring to day shift. Every evening I would look forward to my 4 o'clock phone call so I could gossip. Did we talk! I even burned up the chicken from running my mouth with Calvin. When in much distress from working in chemistry, I could call on Calvin at anytime during the night. He would talk me through any situation. Thank you Calvin for being my friend. The halls of UAB will never be the same. In the early 90's when I came to work at UAB Calvin would take my calls in the lab and always had the answer or would find the answer. Always a positive attitude. I'll never forget when I met him in the hall the first time I recognized his voice and he was just a light to work with on a daily basis. Calvin was truly one of a kind and will be missed! He was very kind, professional, patient, talented, funny, engaging, knowledgeable, helpful, courteous and the list goes on. He never met a stranger and could interact with everyone. I have only known Calvin a few years but he seemed like a life long friend.
