Carolyn Hughes, 75, of Phenix City, AL passed on Thursday, November 13, 2025, in Columbus, GA.
Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. EST, Saturday, November 22, 2025 at Franchise Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. Raymond Cochran, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Evening Sunset Memorial Gardens, Phenix City, AL. Visitation is 1 - 5 p.m. EST Friday, November 21, 2025.
Carolyn Thomas Hughes was born November 24, 1949, in Columbus, GA. She was the daughter of the late Eddie and Katie Mae Thomas.
Carolyn confessed Christ at an early age and joined Franchise Missionary Baptist Church in Phenix City, AL. She was a member of Franchise Missionary Baptist Church Choir, and she was a dedicated member of the Young Matrons.
Carolyn graduated from South Girard High School in 1968. She worked as a photo printer at Columbus Color Lab in Columbus, GA. She went on to pursue a career with the Phenix City Public School System more than 20 years as a devoted paraprofessional. She worked at Susie Allen Elementary School and, afterward, she transferred to Phenix City Headstart, where she retired.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her father and mother, Eddie and Katie Mae Thomas; sister, Mary Frances Cox; and brother, Edward Thomas.
Carolyn’s love for her husband, children, and grandchildren was undeniable. She enjoyed family gatherings, talking on the phone to her siblings and friends, shopping, going out to eat, traveling, and Franchise Missionary Baptist Church. Carolyn was a person you could call on for genuine advice and guidance. If you confided in her, you could have peace of mind that she would not tell anyone. She would give you the look if she was not pleased about something. Carolyn was a sweet soul and touched many people during he journey. Caroly will be missed and remembered always.
Carolyn leaves to cherish memories of her: a devoted husband, Harry Hughes; her daughter, Kimberly Hughes; her son, Ivan (Kristen) Hughes; grandchildren, Ikeyla (Jon) McLaughlin, Jerrean Hughes, and Kaden Hughes; two sisters, Ronella (James) Mitchener, and Pamela Thomas; sisters-in-law, Vivian Thomas, Patricia Hughes, Earkia Wilson, and Vickie Hughes; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends; and extended family members, Mary Nell Carter and N. Lorraine Potter.
