Cecil Stephens, 71, passed away on June 3, 2022 at Piedmont Midtown Medical Center in Columbus, GA. Cecil was born on February 26th 1951 in Columbus, GA to the late Johnny Lee Stephens and Alice Elizabeth Stephens. Cecil was a 1969 graduate of South Girard High School and later attended Opelika Tech, majoring in graphic design and art. He worked in the Phenix City and Columbus School systems as a bus driver for many years. Many knew Cecil as Shorty, Uncle C, but C-Mo was the name his close friends and family affectionately called him. “C-Mo” loved to draw, sing, travel and joke around and he is the self-proclaimed King of Bid Whist and bass fishing.
Cecil met Barbara Jones at a circuit assembly in 1962 and knew he would marry her one day; he was 11 years old. Ten years later, on June 10, 1972, they were married and would have been married 50 years this year. He wanted to have a football team of kids but “settled” on his team of four, Juan Maurice, Aisha, Keita and Keisha.
He dedicated his life to Jehovah in 1967 and served Him faithfully in any capacity needed. He enjoyed talking to people in the ministry and loved helping his brothers and sisters in the congregation, whether it was by serving as an elder and ministerial servant or working on the LDC with the masonry crew and the hospital liaison committee. He was very loving and approachable and made himself available to anyone in need. Many remember him as being warm, loving and easy to talk to, very understanding and was willing to give spiritual guidance without judgment.
He was a father to the fatherless, and true friend and brother to whomever needed him. He was a member of the Oakland Park Congregation in Columbus, GA where he served as a ministerial servant.
He was preceded in death by his parents Johnny Lee Stephens and Alice Elizabeth Stephens, brothers John Melvin, Rudy, and Arthur Lee Stephens, Curtis Owens (Cincinnati, OH) and Ceola Williams (Chicago, IL).
He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife Barbara Jones Stephens; his four children, Juan Maurice Stephens (Phenix City, AL), Aisha Stephens (Columbus, GA), Keita (Shenequa) Stephens (Auburn, AL) and Keisha (Adeyinka) Stephens-Ajagbe and only granddaughter Aria Elizabeth Stephens; siblings, Johnny (Gladys) Williams (Chicago, IL), Alice Owens (Cincinnati, OH), Willie James (Dorothy) Stephens (Chicago, IL), and Harold (Addie) Stephens (Columbus, GA); special brothers, Ralph Williams (Columbus, GA), Alvin Wright (Montgomery, AL), Richard Coppins (Lagrange, GA), Howard Jones (Albany, GA) Mack Davies (Huntsville, AL) and David Camp (Dothan, AL); sisters-in law, Dorothy Brooks and Geraldine Jones; special sisters; cousins, Jackie Cole, Juenie Mathews, Frances Anderson, Mary Allen, Gwen Thompson and Bernice Thomas; adopted children, Patricia Banks, Gabrielle Colquitt, JaRon (Daina) Hampton, Aaron (Nordia) Felder and Julius Fletcher and a host of nieces, nephews, special niece, nephews, Andre and Robert Stephens, Reginald Collier, Theo, Tricy and Amir Jones.

To Barbara and family: I am very sorry for the pain you're having to endure right now. Cecil's loving concern for all of the friends did not go unnoticed by Jehovah. To sister Barbara Stevens, and family from the Adkins family in crowford congregation of JehovahWitnesses, you all are in our prayers, Brother stevens will be missed in this system of things, But he will wake up from his NAP in the new world to come. Where there will be no more tears, death, pain or Mourning, Why? Because the former things will have passed away, (Revelations 21:4) at that time the lame will leap like the deer (Isaiah 35:6) as you all know Jehovah God does not tell lies (numbers 23:19) Psalms 37:11, 29. Are his promises to all of us. We love you all!
This just doesn't feel real. I never could imagine that I would be living without dad around. He was a great man and he loved his family so much. His friends too. He was in a lot of pain. It was hard to watch but we were optimistic about his recovery. He would always bounced back. This is going tough but he would want us to keep pushing. Thanks to everyone for their love and support! - Keisha
