Mr. Cortez Jamario "CJay" Jones, 32, of Columbus, GA . Cortez Jones was born December 20, 1989, in Columbus, Georgia to Miss Christer Sanks and Mr. Connie Jones. He transitioned to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Sunday, September 4, 2022, in Jaco, Costa Rica.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. EST, Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at Pine Hill Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. J.C. Fryer, pastor, officiating. Interment to follow in Evergreen Memorial Park.
He accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Pine Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Phenix City, Alabama.
Cortez was a 2008 graduate of Kendrick High School in Columbus, Georgia. He continued his education at Albany State University, where he majored in Sociology and received his Bachelors of Arts in 2013.
Cortez was employed with Multi-Agency Alliance for Children, Inc. where he served as a Youth and Family Coordinator. Cortez has always had a passion and love for the well-being of children since elementary school.
Other than his grandfathers, Cortez is preceded in death by his grandmothers, Pinkey L. Sanks and Josephine Jones; one aunt, Pearlie Moore; two nephews, LeJerrious Jones Jr. and Ca’Morrious Jones; one niece Xye’Jenerria Jones.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories; his beloved mother, Christer Sanks, Columbus, GA; his father, Connie Jones, Columbus, GA; one sister, LaRhonda Jones (Charlie), Warner Robins, GA; one brother, LeJerrious Jones (Candice), Hinesville, GA; two god sisters, Desiree’ Miller, Charleston, SC and JaLexis Johnson, Phenix City, AL; four nephews, K’Veon Sanks, Kendarius Brockington, Nijavious Jones, and Damarious Jones; four nieces, Kyile Sanks, Kassidy Sanks, Shanterrious Jones, and Samari Jones; one great nephew, Jayden McCullough; one great niece, Ma’Kenleigh Brockington; six uncles, George Sanks and Jammie Sanks (Chenita), Columbus, GA, David Sanks and Travis Lyles (Sharmaine), Phenix City, AL, Rodney Jones (Brenda), Pearson, GA, Lorenzo Dodson (Carolyn), Valdosta, GA; six aunts; Barbara Sanks-Holloway and Delphine Sanks, Columbus, GA, Vernell Sanks, Stone Mountain, GA, Francis Jones (Thurman) and Sandra Gibson (Leon), Pearson, GA, Sheila Bryant (Jessie), Homerville, GA,; three great aunts, Mary Dixon (Tommy), Lucy Sanks, and Willie Mae Holloway (Lee), Fort Mitchell, AL; one great uncle, Roosevelt Thomas (Annie), Fort Mitchell, AL and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

I met Cortez while attending Albany State as well also worked together for DHS. He was funny, friendly, and always had a smile on his face. I am glad to have know him. I wish to send my condolences to his loved ones.
