Darnell Melson, Sr., 84 of Phenix City, AL passed on Friday, December 22, 2023 in Phenix City, AL.
Funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. EST, Thursday, January 4, 2024 in the C.T. Chapel of Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. Calvin White, officiating. Burial to follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Old Seale Rd, Phenix City, AL. Public viewing will take place Wednesday, January 3, 2024 from 2-5 p.m. EST.
Mr. Melson was born April 12, 1939 in Salem, AL to the late Nathan Melson and the late Ida Bell Melson. He was united in marriage to Armlee Williams in 1961 and from this union six children were born.
He was employed 25 years with Pekor Iron Work and retired when the company closed in Columbus, GA. He also worked as a shoe shine polisher for ten years in Ft. Benning, GA.
He enjoyed fishing and shooting pool and most of all he loved his family.
He was preceded in death other than by his parents by a son, Dwayne Fitzgerald Melson; sister, Mary Alice Johnson; brother, Henry Lee Melson; sister in law, Hellen Riley and brother in law, Frank Johnson, Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 62 years, Armlee Williams Melson; four sons, Darnell Melson, Scottie Melson, Christopher Melson all of Phenix City, AL and Jerry Melson (Vanessa), Columbus, OH; one daughter, Crystal Williams (Cedric), Ft. Oglethorpe, GA; one sister in law, Ceola Hubert, Atmore, AL; one brother in law, Labon Williams, Huntsville, AL; ten grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
