David Dixon, 76, of Phenix City, Alabama, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2025. During his 76 years, David was a hard worker and a dedicated and loyal man. He did not waste a moment as he was always busy living!
During the late-1980s to early 2010s, David constantly was seen walking the Georgia Dome, Centennial Olympic Park, State Farm Arena, or the Georgia World Congress Center as a food services manager. He was known for laughing with staff and volunteers, teaching everyone, and encouraging people throughout the workday. When he was not on the job, David was at a Braves game, a concert, following the Atlanta Falcons, meeting with his Omega Psi Phi fraternity brothers, listening to music, or in church. His fondest memories included seeing Michael Jackson in concert in 1988, working at the Dome during the 1996 Summer Olympics, having his name engraved on a Centennial Plaza commemorative brick in 1995, and working at the Kentucky Derby twice.
In his younger years, David served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He received a Certificate of Honor from the State of Georgia for his honorable service as a Specialist 4 (SP4). Shortly after his service, David moved to Atlanta where he climbed the career ladder and spent time with family and friends.
Likewise, he enjoyed his church family too. In the 1990s, David was a member of Red Oak Baptist Church where he was a Deacon and part of the Male Chorus. Later, he joined Midway Missionary Baptist Church, was a member of the Male Chorus, a soloist, and drummer. He also was part of the Midway Missionary Union and the Men's Ministry and was a regular Bible Study attendee.
David is survived by his children, Tiffany Dixon Bell (Andrew) and her mother Ola Smith-Carter (Rodney), and Antoine Nelson and Brandon Dixon and their mother Sheryl Nelson-Dixon; his siblings, Josephine Allen, Mable Dixon, Dorothy Mayle, and Roy Dixon; and, a host of nieces, nephews. cousins, friends, and his two granddaughters, Nzinga Dixon and Daviana Greer.

My memories of David are forever etched in my thoughts. From 1963-67 in The Marching Aristocrats and graduates of South Girard High School. We both attended Alabama State College (later University) He was in the the marching band and I joined the symphonic band. I always enjoyed dancing with David. i will remember his quick wit, mastery of his horn and contagious smile. Hopefully, we will meet again and we will march the Downhill March. Blessings to this family. I pray GOD'S peace and comfort for you all.
May the Love of God console the family during this hour. Stated in Matthew 5:4 "Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted". Until we meet again. Bro. Richard Stephens, Nu Delta '72 - Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, SGHS class '67. With a SPIRITUAL - UPLIFT your brother.
