Dea. Arthur Alexander, 85, of Phenix City, AL passed Wednesday, June 16, 2021 in Columbus, GA.
Graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. EST Friday, June 25, 2021 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church Phenix City, AL. with Dr. Patrick T. Brown, officiating. Visitation is Thursday, June 24, 2021 from 1-5 p.m. EST
Deacon Arthur Alexander was born July 3, 1935 to the late Otis and Emmie Alexander in Russell County Alabama
After enrolling in school in Russell County, he soon became the head of the house at the early age of 8 after the death of his father. At the age of 11 he received his Social Security card which allowed him to get his first job to make sue the family needs were met.
Deacon Alexander confessed Christ and was baptized in 1954 at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Ft. Mitchell under the leadership of Rev. Henry Harris, where he was a good and faithful member until his health failed, serving on various committees to include the following:Trustee Board where he served as the Chairman, Deacon Board, Sunday School Men Class, Mass Choir, Media Ministry, Head Custodian, Cemetery Committee, Ward Leader, Benevolent Committee, Mission , and he was the 1st Organ player to be hired and placed on the payroll at Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
Deacon Alexander loved Russell County and was always giving back to the community in which he was raised. He was an active member of The Tri City Male Chorus, The Russell County Senior Citizen Center, The Mount Hebron District Association where he served at Treasurer and the Ministers, Deacon and Deacon Wives Union for the Baptist Association.
Deacon Alexander was no stranger to hard work and it showed in his performance on all of his jobs in his lifetime. He was employed at Afro American Insurance, Royal Crown Nehi Plant , and Sunshine Biscuits/Kelloggs where he retired in 1999.
Deacon Alexander loved to travel, loved to watch sporting events, loved to give wisdom and knowledge about the past to those who were interested, loved sharing historical facts about the Alexander Family, the Ft Mitchell Area, Mt. Olive Baptist Church and life itself, and he loved playing with his great grand children.
Deacon Alexander was preceded in death by his parents, three siblings Otis Jr., Bertha and Carrie, and his youngest son Dwanice Earl, Sr.. He leaves to cherish his memories, a loving and devoted wife, Lena Alexander, a devoted and caring son, Rickey Alexander (Albany, GA). A brother Clarence (Jeannette) Alexander, (Columbus, GA), Sisters, Julia Dixon (Phenix City, AL) and Sara Alexander (Columbus, GA). A sister in law Ruby James (Seale, AL), brother in law, Lynn (Lois) Allen, (Phenix City, AL) Grandchildren Niketa (Robin) Oden and Dwanice(Kym) Alexander, all of (Phenix City, AL). Great grandchildren Aldarius, Braylen, Baylei, Anthony and Amari. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Although I didn't know Mr Arthur as family and many friends knew him, I learned a lot from listening to his sister and my spiritual sister Sarah as she spoke of her big brother. My condolences go to the family (Mrs Lena, Rickey, Mr Clarence, Mrs Jeanette and Ms Julia), I have come to know of over time.
