Obituary For Eddie J. Moffett

Mr. Eddie J. Moffett, 68, of Phenix City, AL passed Wednesday, May 26, 2021 in Eufaula, AL.

Graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. EST, Friday, June 11, 2021 at Lakeview Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday, June 10, 2021 from 1-5 p.m. EST.

Mr. Moffett was born October 16, 1952 in Columbus GA to the late Eddie Lee Moffett and the late Freddie Mae Madden Moffett.

Growing up in Phenix City, AL, Eddie accepted the Lord from the “mourners’ bench” during revival at an early age at Phillips Temple C.M.E. Church, Phenix City, AL and joined the choir. At Annual Christmas programs, he participated in “The Little Drummer Boy” musical as a percussionist with other young family member musicians under the direction of Dr. Thomas Moffett.

Attending the Public Schools of Phenix City, AL, Eddie was a percussionist in the concert and marching bands initially, then changing to play the tuba/sousaphone. He loved music and continued to master and perfect his playing skills and executing amazing maneuvers with the tuba at South Girard High School, Phenix City, AL. He graduated in 1970 and was the Senior Class President and also was voted “Most Businesslike” as a superlative.

Eddie attended Florida A & M University in Tallahassee, FL from September 1970 to June 1974, majoring in Electronic Engineering Technology. He was a member of the Alpha Phi Omega Fraternity and played and performed with the tuba in the famous FAMU Marching 100 Band, a role model band of excellence.

Eddie also attended the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, AL majoring in Electrical Engineering Technology from January 1984 to June 1986. He was a member of the International Society of Certified Electronic Technicians Association and he held a Federal Communication Commission General Radiotelephone Operators License.

His employment history consisted of a vast diverse list: Toll Connecting Engineer for Southern Bell Telephone Company, Field Engineer at National Cash Register Company, Mechanical Draftsman for Circuit Engineering and Electronic Technician for Stereo House. He was a self-employed barber, performed yard maintenance, Custodian and construction work.

Eddie’s character and personality were so overwhelmingly full of loving kindness for his family and friends.

Eddie was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Gregory Gardner.

Eddie James Moffett will always be remembered and cherished by his loving and devoted siblings: Annell Moffett, Phenix City, AL, Edna Joyce Gardner, Fayetteville, NC and Hugh Benton (Sharon) Moffett, Columbus, GA; one son, Demetrius Shifflett, Phenix City, AL; four nephews, Derrick Gardner, Farmville, NC, Andre’ Gardner, Charlotte, NC, Thomas Norfleet, Atlanta, GA and Brian Norfleet, Columbus, GA; two nieces, Shavonne (Tyrone) Sheffield and Dionne (Dequan) Reese, Spring, TX; five great nephews, Darryn Gardner, Farmville, NC, Dax and Dace Reese and Judah and Jair Sheffield, Spring, TX; one great niece, Makayla Gardner of Farmville, NC; uncles, Arthur (Cordelia) Moffett, Phenix City, AL Thomas (Gloria) Moffett, Columbus, GA; aunts, Evelyn Lokey, Phenix City, AL and Carrie Paige, Chicago, IL; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
