Mrs. Edna Hunter, 81, of Chicago, IL passed Friday, February 10, 2023 in Chicago, IL.
Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. EST, Saturday, February 25, 2023 at St. John A.M.E Church, 944 Highway 165, Ft. Mitchell, AL with Rev. Samuel Smith, pastor, officiating and Presiding Elder Johnny Rutledge, eulogist. Burial to follow in church cemetery. Visitation is Friday, February 24, 2023 from 12-5 p.m. EST.
Edna Parker was born May 23, 1941 in Phenix City, AL. She was the daughter of the late Ervie Parker and Ruthie Parker.
Edna was a graduate of Mother Mary Mission Catholic School in Phenix City, AL.
Edna married Johnny Fred Hunter in 1959. In 1961, they moved to Chicago, IL where they flourished while building their lives and raising their family. To this union three children were born.
Edna retired from the University of Chicagoβs High Energy Physics Department after 25 years of service.
Edna was a member of New Faith Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member and served as President of the Choir.
She was affectionately known for her loving and welcoming spirit. She enjoyed gardening, shopping and traveling.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Ervie Parker, Jr., Edward Parker and Randy Parker, and her bonus daughter, Shelia Mitchell Vasquar.
Edna leaves to cherish her memories, a devoted husband, Johnny Fred Hunter, Sr.; three sons, Johnny Fred Hunter, Jr., Marcus Hunter and Eric Hunter, Sr.; a bonus daughter, Jackie Lewis; four brothers, Walter Parker, Harold Parker, Cordell Parker, and Ronnie Parker; sister, Yvonne Parker; 13 grandchildren, Jazzmine Hunter, Eric Hunter, Jr., Charron Davis, Detrick McClain, Johnny Applewhite, Ethan Hunter, Dalicia McCoy, Tim Mahone, Brandon Mahone and Ikyll Frazier; one great granddaughter, Nevaeh McClain and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. β
