Emma Coleman, 81, of Phenix City, AL passed Monday, September 1, 2025 in Phenix City, AL.
Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. EST, Saturday, September 13, 2025 at Franchise Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. Raymond Cochran, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Concord Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Public viewing on Friday, September 12, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST.
Sister Emma Jean Coleman was born on February 10, 1944, to the late Anderson Hodge and Emma Lou Fuller-Hodge.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Sheppard Coleman on May 15, 1965 where they shared 59 years of marriage.
Emma retired from Southern Phenix Textiles where she worked for 35 years. She was a member of Franchise Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of her dear friend and mentor, Dr. Raymond Cochran, Sr. She was a dedicated choir member and served in numerous ministries until her husband’s health declined.
Emma was a dedicated member of the East Alabama Progressive Association. Emma was the founder of the Golden Girls where she fellowshipped with church friends and loved ones. Her club was dedicated to bridging the gap between church and life.
Emma was a cherished matriarch of her family where she raised several grandkids, great grands, nieces, nephews, and god kids.
Emma was an Auburn Football fan and loved the casino. Emma loved her church and dedicated her life to serving even after her health failed by cooking meals for the youth.
Emma departed this life on September 1, 2025 at her home. She was preceded in death by one sister, Clairese Hodge and three brothers, Willie James Hodge, Jimmy Lee Hodge, and Anderson Boone Hodge, Jr.
Emma leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Brenda Coleman (James) Jackson, Jr. and Angela Coleman (Robert) Morgan, Jr.; one sister, Juanita Hodge; two brothers, Ennis (Mary) Hodge and Melvin (Dorothy) Hodge; four sisters-in-law, Shirley Coleman, Barbara Howard, Debra Coleman, Erma Jean Coleman; four grandchildren, Alexis Coleman (Herman Mitchell), Alexandra Coleman, Joshua Morgan, and Jakaya Jackson; four great-grandchildren, Aniah Mitchell, Siriah Mitchell, Courtney Mitchell, and Mula Morgan; one godson, Rodregous Hood; two god daughters, Venissa (Marvis) Hudson and Saylor Walton; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
