Mrs. Evelyn D. Robinson fought the good fight and kept the faith. On Friday, August 30 2024, she finished the course and was called from labor to reward. Evelyn was born, February 2, 1926 in Washington County, GA to Mack and Annie Davis. She was the middle child of nine siblings, four brothers and four sisters,Alma, Thena, Mack, Velma, Julian, Chapman, Herman and Betty. After graduating T. J. Elder High school, she went on to matriculate at what is now Savannah State University where she received a BS in elementary education. She was an outstanding student and received the president's award at SSU her junior year. She later attended Tuskegee University where she received her Master's Degree in Education. She went on to complete further studies at Auburn University, Alabama State University, West Georgia college, and Georgia State University where she received her certification in counseling. She met Leven Abercrombie Robinson Jr. during her senior year at Savannah State College. Leven was returning to complete his studies after serving in the United States army during World War II. They were married October of 1946 and returned to his home in Alabama. They were thereafter blessed with a son, Leven Robinson III, (Leb Qamar) and subsequently their late miracle baby, Lisa (as Evelyn was told that after her second birth, she could have no more children). Evelyn began her teaching career in Phenix City, then later was moved to Harris County Georgia until which time the family moved to Columbus GA, where they eventually settled. She finalized her career with 40 years of service under her belt at Allen Elementary. Evelyn retired, thereafter, to care for her cancer-stricken husband in the winter of January 1986. Evelyn was an active member of Nichols Chapel AME church in Phenix City, where she was a former member of the Missionary Board and Senior Choir until which time she left to go live with her daughter in DeKalb County GA. She remained with her daughter for over a decade until the COVID outbreak, where her daughter who was working thought it best for her to go live with her son and dearly beloved daughter in law in Attalla, AL ,and that is where she resided until the Lord saw fit to receive her back home.
Evelyn leaves to cherish her memories, a son Leb Qamar, (Leven Robinson III), a dear daughter in law, Sakinah Qamar, of Attalla Al., a daughter, Lisa and daughter in love, Zibia of Atlanta GA, one brother, Chapman James of Phila PA., two brothers in law, Wilbert Maynor, of Sylvania GA, and Edgar H. Battle Jr. of Phenix City, AL. Also left to celebrate her are several dear god-daughters, five grandchildren, five great grandchildren and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and special friends who she's grown to love like family.
