Florence Taylor was born on April 1, 1947, the third child of Inez and Cliff Taylor, in Russel County Alabama. She was baptized at an early age at Bethlehem Crossroads Baptist Church in Ft Mitchell, AL and continued her belief in God throughout her life. Reading and writing about life and God’s goodness were one of favorite pastimes. On Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at the age of 78, she was called to her eternal home. She passed away peacefully early in the morning in Columbus, GA.
After attending elementary school at St. Peter Claver (now St. Joseph), she attended Mother Mary Mission until the 9th Grade, and then later graduating with honors from South Girard High School. Florence loved learning and after graduating high school, her next stop was attending her beloved Tuskegee Institute (now Tuskegee University). While at Tuskegee she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Food Science. Florence embraced campus life and joined the sisterhood of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Gamma Tau Chapter. DST was her second love. After working for a few years, earning a master’s degree was next on her to do list. That task was completed at Case Western Reserve University, a private university in Cleveland, Ohio.
As a proud Registered Dietitian, her career led her to Gary Indiana, Chicago, Il (Board of Health), Cleveland OH, and finishing her career in Augusta GA at Grace State Hospital. After retirement, she often expressed her feelings in art forms. The colors and designs are extremely unique and thought-provoking.
Florence is preceded in death by her parents, Cliff and Inez Taylor, older sister, Betty Taylor and brother, Otto Taylor.
Florence is survived by her sister, Mary Taylor Willams of Fayetteville, GA; brothers, Clifford Taylor (Ruth) of Lithonia, Ga; George Taylor (Stacy) of Glen Carbon, IL; and Thomas Taylor (Ouida) of Roswell, GA. She also has a special aunt, Dorothy Ford and niece, Carolyn Erkins; and a hosts of other nieces, nephews, and cousins that shared loved for her.

It is such sadness to see this. I just saw this picture in Tuskegee's yearbook, and I asked another soror if he knew where Big Sister Taylor was. She responded with this obituary. She was such a sweet, big sister when we were pledging. Sorry we did not stay in touch over the years, and to learn of her passing. Rest in peace.
Rest in peace My Dear Friend 🧡
