Florence Stephens was born May 2, 1927 to the late Herbert Stephens and the late Lillie Moore Stephens. She was the fourth of seven children.
Florence was united in holy matrimony to the love of her life, Charlie Williams in September 1944.
She confessed Christ at the age of 11 and joined the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in 1938. She was the oldest living member at Mt. Olive (85 years).
During her tenure at Mt. Olive Florence was the pianist for 49 years, Sunday School teacher, member of the Adult Sunday School class, Senior Choir, Matrons, Deacon Wives and the Church Missionary Society.
Mrs. Williams had a profound love for music that started at an early age. The piano was her choice. She took piano lessons from several teachers and her love for the piano guided her in the direction to teaching piano lessons to many students who were interested in learning to play the piano. During her spare time she would get on the piano, relax, play and sing some of her favorite songs. Playing the piano was her career. She played for Mt. Olive Baptist Church for more than 40 years, also teaching voice training. Her talent on the piano led her to playing for several churches, Bethel A.M.E., Pleasant Grove, Uchee Hill, Pine Hill and Faithful Baptist Church.
On Friday, April 14, 2023, God in His infinite wisdom and love called his faithful servant home to rest.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Lillie Stephens; husband, Charlie Williams; brothers, Charles Stephens, Emmitt Stephens and Herman Stephens; sisters, Melver Sumbry, Annie C. Underwood and Dr. Bernice Dodd; nieces, Andre Macintosh, Juanita Scott, Chareese Dodd and nephew, Emmitt Stephens, Jr.
Special memories will be forever cherished by a devoted niece, Vivian Henry; sisters-in-law Carrie Louise Stephens and caregivers, Joyce Stephens and niece, Deborah Williams; special appreciation to nieces, Myra Hill and Ginger Taylor; god-daughter, Dale Parker and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
