Mr. Garry J. Echols, 70, of Phenix City, AL passed Monday, September 5, 2022 in Atlanta, GA.
Funeral service will be 4:00 p.m. EST, Saturday, September 10, 2022 at Pine Hill Missionary Baptist Church with Rev, J.C. Fryer, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Edmonds Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, September 9, 2022 from 2-5 p.m. EST.
Gary went to school in Russell County Alabama where he utilized his great athletic abilities. Upon graduating, he moved to Cleveland, Ohio and later moved to Paterson, NJ. There he went thru an apprenticeship program for glaziers in which he joined the Glaziers Local 1940 union. In 1992 he moved to Atlanta. GA and worked many years with the union and other glass companies.
Garry was a member of Pine Hill Missionary Baptist Church where he sang in the choir & men chorus, where he was known as: brother Echols.
He was a former softball player playing with multiple teams in Atlanta where he was known as "G". A loving grandfather to his granddaughter where he was known as "G-Money” . A skilled Glazier where he was known as "Old Man". A loving devoted uncle, cousin, brother, dad, & father figure where he was known as "Bernice Jenkins” the family comedian. Most importantly, to his Lord & Savior Jesus Christ known as a child or God.
Those to rejoice in his memory is his wife, Cassandra Echols; one daughter, Destiny Echols; four sons, Cornelius Echols (Sherieka), Jerome Warren, Julian Hicks (Akeela) and Jarrett Echols; two granddaughters, Ariel and Joi; two grandsons, Tybias & Jerome Jr.,.two brothers. Willie James Echols (Olette) the late Sam Echols (Linda) ; two sisters, Annie Douglas and Patricia Jordan; two sisters in love, Vanessa Williams and Brenda Dickson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces, great nephews, extended family and friends.
