Gertha Seay, 72, passed on June 25, 2024 in Columbus, GA.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. EST on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 in the C.T. Chapel of Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. Hovet Dixon, officiating. Burial to the follow in Shady Grove Baptist Church, Battle Community. Public viewing from 1:00-5:00 p.m. EST on Tuesday, July 2, 2024.
Gertha Lee Seay was born to the late Lugenia Seay and Charlie Andrews on May 19, 1952 in Rutherford, AL. She was educated in Russell County and attended Russell County Training School.
Gertha was baptized at an early age and joined Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Battle Community in Eufaula, AL. She would later join Lewis Memorial Baptist Church in Columbus, GA. Gertha was a faithful member, she loved to cook and was a member of the kitchen committee. She was recognized several years for her dedication to the ministry.
A friend to many, Gertha could be found talking on the phone to family members and friends about the latest news around town. Gertha was a devoted shopper, she loved fashion and was always dressed to impress. After working many years at different mills in downtown Columbus, Gertha would retire from Swift Denim in May 1999 after eleven years of service.
On Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at River Towne Center in Columbus, GA, a mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend was called home to be with the Lord and Savior. Although our hearts are heavy, our faith remains strong knowing that our God is too wise to make mistakes. In addition to her parents, Gertha is preceded in death by two brothers; Leonard Seay and Charlie Andrews, Jr; and one daughter, Theresa Manley.
To cherish her memories, Gertha leaves one daughter; Janelle Hollis (Columbus, GA) sons; Robert Manley, Jr., Columbus, GA, Jamell Seay, Smyrna, GA, and Tre’vion Messer, Cataula, GA; six sisters, Rosie Mae Seay, Amy Seay, Shirley (Herman) Farley, Mazell (Booker T) Jones, Kimberly (Rod) Scott and Hope Lewis; 16 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
