Homer K. Kelly, 79, passed Sunday, June 16, 2024 in Opelika, AL.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. EST, Monday, June 24, 2024 in the C.T. Chapel of Taylor Funeral Home with Elder Jerry Smith, officiating. Public viewing will be on Saturday, June 22, 2024 from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. EST.
Mr. Homer Karry Kelly was born January 13, 1945, in Seale, AL to the late Mr. Curtis Kelly, Sr. and Idella Robinson Kelly. He transitioned on June 16, 2024, at the age of 79. Preceding him in transitioning were both parents and an older brother, McKinley Kelly II. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior in his early years.
Homer had a great sense of humor, and was affectionately referred to as Hawk, Tom, and Truck Driver. He was a 1963 graduate of Mt. Olive High School where he made All American in both basketball and football. He was offered a try out to play with the Detroit Lions and passed on it, but continued his love for sports, joining his brothers in playing with the Rosemount Eagles. In earlier years, he was a part of the historical traveling baseball team known as the Indianapolis Clowns. He retired from Diversified Products.
He leaves to cherish his memories wife, Willia Marie Smith of Auburn, AL; two bonus children, Otis (Sarmila) Smith of Jacksonville, FL and Montha Parker of Auburn, AL; two grandchildren, Mikalen and Mekyah Smith of Jacksonville, FL; two brothers, Jerry (Paula) Smith of Opelika, AL, David (Thelma) Smith of Opelika AL; sister-in love, Alice L. Gilliam of Phenix City, AL; four brothers, Curtis Kelly Jr. of Phenix City, AL, Robert (Carolyn) Kelly of Austin, TX, Milton (Mary)Kelly of Fairburn, GA, Lewis (Ruby) Kelly of Los Angeles, CA.; a host of loving nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews who were near and dear to his heart, and other loving relatives.
