Howard Wesley Terry, Sr., 76, of Phenix City, AL passed on Friday, January 23, 2026.
Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. EST, Saturday, February 7, 2026 at Franchise Missionary Baptist Church, 1000 Dillingham Street, Phenix City, AL with Dr. Raymond Cochran, pastor and Rev. Timothy Littleton, Jr., officiating. Interment at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery on Monday, February 9, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. EST. Public visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., on Friday, February 6, 2026.
PERSONAL HISTORY
SFC (Retired) Howard W. Terry was born on November 25, 1949 in Marion, AL to the late Adolph Terry and Laura Wyatt Terry. He attended Spring Hill Elementary School and Lincoln High School, Marion, AL. At the age of 17, while faithfully serving his country, he completed his General Equivalency Diploma completeting his high school education.
In 1975, Howard was united in Holy Matrimony to the love of his life, Mary Elizabeth Terry. From this union, three children were born: Yolanda (Edwin) Beasley of Pittsview, AL, Howard W. (Ashley) Terry, Jr., Dallas, GA and LaShun (Timothy,Jr.) Littleton, Columbus, GA. He was also the proud father of Demris Devon of Almond, Anniston, AL.
CAREER
Mr. Terry proudly served two tours in Vietnam and completed 24 years of honorable service in the United States Army. Throughout his distinguished military career, he was highly decorated soldier, earning multiple medals of honor and commendations. He served as a Ranger in the 76th Battalion at Ft. Benning, GA, and later as a member of the Special Forces Unit towards the end of his military service demonstrating courage, discipline, and unwavering dedication to duty and country.
FAMILY LEGACY
A man of strength and quiet honor, SFC (Retired) Terry was deeply respected for his leadership, wisdom, and character. Beyond the uniform, he cherished life's simple joys--especially baseball and fishing--which brought him peace and lasting memories with those he loved.
SFC (retired) Howard W. Terry leaves a legacy of honor, courage, sacrifice and service. His life stands as a powerful testimony of devotion to God, family and country. His memory will forever be honored by those he served beside, the family he loved, and a nation he faithfully defended.

He is alive in his children: Yolanda (Edwin) Beasley, Pittsview, AL, Howard W. (Ashley) Terry, Jr., Dallas, GA, LaShun (Timothy, Jr.) Littleton, Columbus, GA; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other family, community friends and loved ones.
