Irma Lowther, 80, of Phenix City, AL passed on Thursday, May 14, 2026 in Phenix City, AL.
Funeral service will be held at 9:00 a.m. EST, Thursday, May 21, 2026 at New Providence Baptist Church, Columbus, GA with Rev. Martai McCollough, officiating. Interment to follow at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell, AL
Deaconess Irma Jean “Jeannie” Lowther was born October 30, 1945, in Cottonton, AL, to the late Theo Everette Evans and Evelyn (Daniels) Evans. She matriculated and graduated from Mother Mary Mission High School, Phenix City, AL, in 1963. Deaconess Lowther furthered her education at Columbus Area Vocational-Technical School in Columbus, GA, where she received a certificate in Business Education in June 1967. She went on to receive a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from American Technological University in Killeen, Texas, in December 1978.
Deaconess Lowther worked diligently as a United States federal civil service worker and retired in March 2012 after 30 years of dedicated service. She moved to Phenix City, AL, in 1996 and united with New Providence Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Albert McCorvey, Sr. She served as a deaconess and trustee wife to the late Deacon Thomas Loyal Lowther, Jr.
Deaconess Irma Jean “Jeannie” Evans Lowther was united in marriage to the late Thomas Loyal Lowther on June 14, 1969. From this union, two sons were born. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Deacon Thomas Loyal Lowther, Jr., of devoted and loving forty-six (46) years; her parents, Theo and Evelyn Evans, of Phenix City, AL; her parents-in-law, Deacon Thomas L. and Ruby Lowther, Sr., of Dublin, GA; brother-in-law Ernest Jackie Holmes of Dublin, GA; three aunts, Doretha Mason and Rosie Mae Rozier Jones of Dublin, GA, and Ann Lowther of Buffalo, NY; one uncle, Levi Rozier of Dublin, GA; and her sister, Theoria Yvonne Smith of Smiths, AL.
She leaves to cherish her memory and celebrate her life her loving and devoted two sons, Thomas Loyal Lowther III and Roderick Theo Lowther, both of Phenix City, AL; three sisters-in-law, who were more like sisters, Julia L. Simmons, Claudia Holmes, and Barbara (Eltred) Swayne, all of Dublin, GA; two aunts, Lillie Lowther and Juanita Rozier, both of Dublin, GA; one uncle, James Lowther of Buffalo, NY; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
