J.C. Averett, 82, of Phenix City, AL, passed on Tuesday, August 4, 2026 in Phenix City, AL.
Funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. EST. on Wednesday, August 12, 2026 at Mt. Canaan Baptist Church with Rev. Keith James, pastor, officiating. Burial at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. Public visitation will be Tuesday, August 11, 2026 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.EST. at Taylor Funeral Home, Inc.
Bro. J.C. Averett was born April 4, 1944, to the late Jeff Averett, Sr. and the late Mandy Davis in Phenix City, AL. He graduated from South Girard High School and went on to serve in the United States Army. After leaving the military, he attended classes at Columbus Technical College and Troy University. For years he worked at Uniroyal and retired in 2008.
J.C. was baptized at an early age and was a dedicated member of Mt. Canaan Baptist Church. He loved serving on the Usher Board and was the President for many years. He was grateful for the love that was shown to him during his time serving. J.C. was a proud member of the 555th Parachute Infantry Battalion and the Phenix City Chapter of DAV where he served tirelessly serving other veterans. He loved people and sharing stories to make them laugh.
On Tuesday, August 4, 2026, God in His infinite wisdom wrapped J.C. in His arms and enfolded him in His love. He departed this earthly life at the age of 82. He was preceded in death by his grandfather Clarence Averett and his devoted grandmother, Lovely Averett.
J.C. is survived by devoted daughters, Sonia (Bennie) Averett-Jackson and Tina Patterson of Columbus, GA; his sister, Dianna Heflin of Cleveland, OH; his brothers, Jeff Averett, Jr. of Columbus, GA and Jimmy Averett of Atlanta, GA; grandkids, Louis Averett, Whitney Patterson, TaShondra Patterson, Markees Patterson, and Amber (Keyshawn) Taylor. A host of great-grandkids, nieces, nephews, cousins and loved ones.

One of my favorite cousins will be laid to rest today, my birthday. J C is one of three cousins that I had on my late father's side born to his sister,(Aunt Mandy) the others, Jacob Davis (deceased) and Charlie Foster. My mom is the late Lizzie Mae Davis.
J C was a constant presence in my life to the extent possible. We wrote to each other when he was in the military. He would offer words of encouragement and inspiration during my school years and beyond. "Stay in school and keep your head in then books". I earned credits towards my PhD. During my visits to Al and GA, we got together for visits if only a send-off at the airport in Columbus. Cousin J C was a handsome who wore that uniform, proud and well. Sleep on cousin. We love you but God loves you best! Thank you Lord for loaning him to us for 82 years! RIP ❤️👋🏽.
To the family off J. C. Averett. I would like to send my deepest condolences. J. C was a very nice and caring and mild manned person. He has left the world better for his being in it. I will celebrate his life. Rest in peace.
I remember my Uncle JC. He will be missed. He was also preceded by a brother Jake Davis and has one living brother Retired MSG Charlie Davis of Phenix City AL.

JC you will truly be missed by my mom and me. You were indeed a remarkable and sweet person that I grew up around half of my life. I will also miss those good sweet potato pies you always made.
