Ms. Jeannie Mae James, age 93, was born August 30, 1932, in Fort Mitchell, Alabama to the late Robert and Willie Mae James. On May 1, 2026, she departed this life at her home in Columbus, Georgia surrounded by her family and loved ones.
She accepted Christ at a very young age at the Mount Olive Baptist Church. She joined and served faithfully on the Usher Board for over 72 years until her health began to decline.
While she attended high school in her early years, she was a member of the girls’ basketball team. After she graduated from high school, she went on to work as a devoted and dedicated Housekeeper, caregiver, and nurturer for the Scarborough’s family for over 60 years. She was not only their housekeeper, but she was a friend who cared for her neighbors providing them with food and monetary donations whenever she could.
Her passion in life included reading her bible and serving others by giving of her time. She taught all her children and grandchildren how important it was to pray, read and study the bible. She loved the Lord and loved singing to him daily. She loved cooking for her family, walking in the parks, and she mostly enjoyed her visits to the riverwalk.
She never met a stranger. She would always greet everyone that she met, with a smile and a hug and would always say,” The Lord is Good!” When you met mom, you met a true and faithful friend for life.
She was preceded in death by one son, Bennie James; two sisters, Annie Mae James and Louise James; four brothers, Robert James, Theoplius James, Samuel James, and Jimmy James
She leave to cherish her memory: her son, Morris (Kimberly) Bowman of Phenix City, Alabama; four daughters, Rosie (Glen) Bickham of Severn Maryland, Mary (Channey) Alexander of Phenix City, Alabama; Christine (Keith) Jackson of Pelham, Alabama, and Barbara (Timothy) Jones of Columbus, Georgia; nine grandchildren, Alvanious Alexander, Sr., Christopher Alexander, Sr., Angelo Wiltshire, Valerie Wiltshire, Trajan Jackson, Deandre Bowman, Joshua Bowman, Lashonda Greenlee and Destynee Jones; nine great grands, Aaliyah Alexander, Alvanious Alexander, Jr., Christopher Alexander, Jr., Aviyonna Alexander, Arianne Alexander, Tylah Greenlee, Jaycob Greenlee, Javante Wiltshire, Jadaris Leonard, Jakobi Holland, Cameron Wiltshire; one great-great-granddaughter, Syairi Stephens; a devoted niece, Jeannie James and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
