Mr. Joe Lewis, 78, of Phenix City, AL passed Sunday, June 26, 2022 in Phenix City, AL.
Graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. EST, Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at St. Paul C.M.E. Church, Crawford, AL with Rev. Dr. Raynetta Prevo-Williams, pastor, officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 5, 2022 from 2-5 p.m. EST.
Mr. Joe Lewis was born March 2, 1944 in Lee County, AL to the late Rev. Dr. Katie Lewis and the late Lewis Allen.
He answered his call to God on Sunday, June 26, 2022 at Branches Home for Veterans in Phenix City, AL. He received loving care and support by his niece Modell McKenzie.
Joe accepted Christ at an early age, joining St. Paul C.M.E. Church, Crawford, AL, where he attended until his health failed.
He attended school in the Lee County School Systems.
His employment history consisted of working at Eagle & Phenix Mills and Bibb Mill in Columbus, GA.
Joe moved to Buffalo, NY in 1978. He remained there for 30 years plus. He was employed with a janitorial service until he returned to Alabama to be a caregiver for his cousin and brother.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis Allen and Rev. Dr. Katie Lewis; brother, Judge "Tank" Lewis.
He leaves to cherishes his memories his devoted niece, Modell McKenzie; two brothers, George Allen of Albany, NY and Tommy (Laura) Allen of Phenix City, AL; sister, Madell (Charles) Dowdell of Salem, AL; devoted friend, Johnnie Mae Edwards of Salem, AL; devoted special cousin, James Allen of Salem, AL and a host of nieces, nephews other family and friends.
