John L. Webb was born on January 9, 1957, in Seale, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Bernis Dorsey Webb, Sr. and Alice Lee Webb. John departed this life on December 21, 2025, leaving behind a legacy rooted in faith, service, love, and joy.
During his early years, John spent much of his childhood traveling the West Coast, an experience that broaden his perspective and shaped his outlook on life. He later returned to the Columbus, Georgia area, where he would ultimately spend his adult life building his family, career, ministry, and community presence.
John gave his life to Jesus Christ in 1984, marking the beginning of a lifelong and deeply committed spiritual journey. His faith was not just something he professed—it was something he lived. John loved the Lord wholeheartedly and found true joy in doing God’s work. He had a missionary’s heart, regularly visiting the sick and shut-in, praying for others, and offering encouragement wherever it was needed. If you knew John, you knew his presence lit up any room. He loved laughter, loved a good joke, and always knew how to make someone smile. Yet when moments called for seriousness, John was the one to pray, the one to stand in faith, and often the one willing to speak at another’s funeral.
John firmly believed that the dash between birth and death represented one’s opportunity to do their very best, and he lived fully committed to that belief. He was thoughtful and intentional, known for sending cards, giving gifts, and remembering others in ways both big and small.
His ministry journey included serving as an Elder and Pastor at the Church of God in Columbus, Georgia. He later became a faithful member of Mount Zion AME Church in Seale, Alabama, where he taught Sunday School and served in various capacities. Most recently, John united with Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church in Columbus, Georgia, where he remained active and committed to his calling. At the time of his passing, he was preparing for his trial sermon, awaiting the opportunity to step fully into the role of pastor.
An entrepreneur at heart, John was widely known throughout the community as “The Yard Man”—a name he earned through many years of dedication to lawn maintenance and landscaping. He took great pride in his work caring for yards, providing service to clients, operating his business alongside his primary career. He also used this work to teach his sons the value of hard work, responsibility, and self-sufficiency.
John also devoted 27 years of faithful service to the Columbus Consolidated Government, where he worked with diligence and integrity. Throughout his tenure, he received the Safe Driver Award and retired with honor, never having a single accident during his years of service.
A man who loved the outdoors, John had a lifelong passion for fishing. He took great joy in teaching his children and grandchildren how to fish, living by the principle, “If you teach a man to fish, he will never be hungry.” Because of him, that tradition continues through generations.
John was also a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Sabreena, with whom he shared and created a beautiful life together. As best friends, they enjoyed traveling, dining out, exploring new experiences, and building a life filled with companionship and love.
John was a proud father of 13 children. He loved all of his children equally and without distinction. His family included 9 daughters and 4 sons, and he was a proud grandfather to 28 grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, two sisters, and a large extended family who loved him dearly.
As a father, John took pride in teaching his children life skills—how to cook, clean, change a tire, work hard, and live responsibly. He was present, loving, dependable, and intentional.
John L. Webb leaves behind a legacy of faith, joy, service, generosity, and love. He will be deeply missed, but his laughter, prayers, wisdom, and example will live on through all who were blessed to know him.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his devoted and loving wife, Sabreena Webb of Columbus, GA; his loving children, John Christopher Webb (LaToyia), Ariane Blanks (Anthony), Rachel Lindsey (Corey), Brittani Webb, Naomi Webb, Micah Webb, Timothy Webb (Tyra), Esther Webb, Denise Doner, Michelle Doner, Ronald Clark, Kim Hicks, Keona Andrews (Deontia) all of Columbus, GA; his loving siblings, Mary E. Ingram (Johnny) of Columbus, GA, Judy A. Newton of Columbia, SC, and Bernis Webb, Jr. (Chandra) of Charleston, SC; a host of other relatives and friends.
