Joseph C. Johnson affectionately known as “Buck,” Joseph was born on June 14, 1950, in Dallas–Fort Worth, Texas, to the late Earlis and Mable Johnson. He was preceded in death by his siblings Linda, EJ, and Theo, and is lovingly remembered by his surviving siblings Deborah, Virginia, and Bobby.
Joseph’s early years were rooted in faith, hard work, and perseverance—values that guided him throughout his life. These qualities shaped the man he became, leaving a legacy of love, strength, and respect in the hearts of all who knew him.
On August 23, 2025, Buck peacefully transitioned from this earthly life in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, surrounded by his loving family.
As a young man Buck proudly enlisted in the United States Army and completed his Infantry Basic Training at Fort Benning, Georgia. His dedication to service carried him across the world, beginning with two tours in Vietnam. Over the course of more than 20 years in uniform, he faithfully served his country through two wars and countless conflicts, ultimately retiring with over two decades of honorable service.
While Buck’s military career reflected courage and strength, his heart was always rooted in his family. He shared an unshakable, lifelong love with his wife, Phyllis Joseph. Their marriage of more than 35 years was a true partnership, marked by devotion, respect, and joy. To all who knew them, Buck’s love for Phyllis was evident he cherished her deeply and spoke often of the blessing she was in his life.
Together they built a home filled with love, laughter, and faith. Their union was blessed with six children who were the joy of his life.
As a father, Buck was a steady hand, a gentle teacher, and a source of unconditional love. He led his family with patience and wisdom, always encouraging his children to stand strong, stay humble, and love deeply. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren also knew him as a protector, a storyteller, fisher man and the very heart of the family.
Buck will be remembered not only as a veteran and patriot but as a man whose legacy of love, faith, and devotion to his family will live on through the generations. His presence brought comfort, his laughter brought joy, and the examples and lessons he sharded to countless people will always bring inspiration to all who knew him.
His legacy will live on in his dedicated four daughters Katrina, Sandie, Sindie and Kim and his dedicated two sons Andre and Sean and countless grandchildren and great grandchildren and a host of other family relatives and friends.
