Deacon Leon Lynn Allen was born on May 7, 1935, in Seale, Alabama, to the late Leon Lynn Allen, Sr. and Beatrice Jackson Allen. In the stillness of the night on Thursday, November 6, 2025, in Albany, Georgia, he peacefully entered eternal rest. As he transitioned from labor to reward, he heard the Master say, “Well done, thy good and faithful servant. You have finished the race. Come home.”
Leon accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Providence Missionary Baptist Church in Seale (Lato), Alabama under the leadership of Rev. S.A. Harvey. In his twenties, he relocated to Chicago, Illinois, where he united with Providence Baptist Church in Chicago, IL. During his time there, he served faithfully in the choir, Sunday School, and Bible Study. After returning to Alabama, he reunited with his home church—Providence Missionary Baptist Church in Seale, Al—under the leadership of Rev. Felix Worthen. Until his health declined, Deacon Allen served faithfully as a member of the Male Choir, Senior Choir, Brotherhood Ministry, Sunday School, Bible Study, and the Deacon Ministry.
Leon was educated in the Russell County School System and was well known for being active in his community. With a love for music and singing, he joined the Russell County Choral Union. He was also a faithful associate member of the Columbus/Russell County/Phenix City Alumni Chapter of Alabama State University.
A dedicated and hardworking provider, Leon was employed with Bibb Mills in Columbus, Georgia, and later retired from Ford Motor Company in Chicago, Illinois, after more than 40 years of devoted service.
Before moving to Chicago, Leon married Mary Frances Ducette. To this union, his pride and joy was born—his only daughter, Vickie Allen Wilson. Upon returning to the Seale area in 2007, Leon united in Holy Matrimony with Minister Dolores Elias Allen. Through this union, he gained a bonus son, Yari Washington.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry Allen and Robert Allen, and one sister, Lillie M. Alexander.
His legacy of love and faith will forever be treasured by his loving wife, Minister Dolores Elias Allen of Phenix City, Alabama; his devoted daughter, Vickie (Chester) Wilson of Columbus, Georgia; his bonus son, Yari Washington of Phenix City, Alabama; his sisters, Ruby James of Seale, Alabama, and Lena Alexander of Phenix City, Alabama; sisters-in-law, Carolyn (Jimmie) Lewis of Phenix City, Alabama, JoAnn Elias of Columbus, Georgia, and Betty Mayes of McCalla, Alabama; his aunt, Sara Lewis of Phenix City, Alabama; a devoted niece raised as a sister, Charlie Mae (Clarence) Rutledge of Phenix City, Alabama; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends.
