Lillie M. Calhoun Teel, age 71, transitioned into eternal life on Tuesday July 21, 2020 at Yale New Haven Hospital. Lillie was born March 15, 1949 in Hurtsboro, AL to the late RC and Louise Calhoun. She was the youngest of five children. To her family and close friends she was called “Lil Bit.” She accepted Christ at the age of 14 and joined First Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Owens in Hurtsboro, AL. She was a member of the choir, a junior Sunday school teacher, and a junior usher.

Lillie attended Russell County Training School where she graduated with honor in 1968. Later that year she moved to Norwalk, CT, where she joined Shiloh Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Julius June Fulton. In 1969, she met the love of her life, Winzer Teel, and they were married in 1970. They were the first couple married at Shiloh Baptist Church.

Lillie was very active. She played in the Hank Aaron Softball League. She was a pitcher for the F.J. Rookies, Wilks Scientific, and Co-ed Softball for Calvary Baptist Church of Darien. She also played co-ed volleyball for Wilks Scientific.

Her natural activities didn’t interfere with her spiritual activities. She was a pillar of Shiloh. She served as the Church Clerk, Youth Supervisor, Secretary of the Senior Usher Board, President of the Senior Usher Board, and Supervisor of the Junior Usher Board. She was a faithful member of the Fairfield County Usher Unit. She held the position of Assistant Secretary and Assistant Supervisor of the Fairfield County Junior Ushers. She was very active at the state level as well. She was the Assistant Supervisor of the United Ushers of Connecticut Junior Usher Unit.

Lillie loved working with the youth. She was a supervisor for the Norwalk Community Choir, supervisor of the Black Butterfly Cotillion, and she was a babysitter for many children throughout Connecticut. Lillie retired from Northrop Grumman in 2013. Her love for the youth lead her to work at A.C.H.I.E.V.E after school program for 2 years.

In addition to her husband, she leaves to cherish her memories: two daughters, Tonya and Rhonda Teel of Norwalk, CT; two grandsons, Chance and Winzer Marcellus Teel, whom she adored; one sister, Sadie Calhoun Richardson; one God- brother, Joenathan Jordan; nephew/grandson, Raequon Calhoun; six god daughters- Natasha Hill, Erica Hinton, Amber Martin, Le’Ashia Langley, Kiki and Lila Jarozewski. She leaves to cherish her memories a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her Godparents Moses and Janine Jordan, one brother, Tommie Calhoun, two sisters, Mary George and Rosa Wilson.
