Lois Perry Guinn was born on August 15, 1927, to the late Rev. Ellis Perry and the late Ophelia Finch Perry in Smiths Station, AL. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Smiths Station, AL, where she devoted herself to walking and talking the Christian faith, inspiring her family to follow her example. She graduated from South Girard High School in 1946 and attended the State Teachers College, now known as Alabama State University.
In August 1955, she married Clifford Guinn, Jr., and together they raised seven successful children. Affectionately known as "Mot-Dear" (mother dear), Mrs. Guinn was a loving and devoted mother who never knew a stranger. She had a heart full of love for her family, her friends, and her community, but most of all, she loved the Lord with all her heart.
A longtime member of Liberty Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Mrs. Guinn was the oldest living member at the time of her passing. She served the church in many capacities, including on the Missionary Board, the Willing Workers Club, and as a dedicated member of the choir. Singing was her passion, and she cherished every opportunity to lift her voice in praise. She sang in several choirs, most notably the Senior Choir, where she faithfully sang every 1st Sunday until her health began to decline. Even then, she continued to sing her favorite hymns at home, filling the space with her love for God. Among her favorite songs were "I'm Bound for Mount Zion" and "When I Rose This Morning."
Mrs. Guinn retired after over 40 years of service at Snow White Cleaners in Columbus, GA. In her free time, she enjoyed singing, talking on the phone, shopping, babysitting, and, above all, reading her Bible and Sunday School lessons. She was an avid reader who cherished her time with the Word of God, drawing strength and wisdom from it every day. A devoted matriarch, she was always eager to visit her family and share in the joys of their lives.
Mrs. Guinn leaves behind a profound legacy that will be cherished by her devoted children: Cecil Guinn of San Antonio, TX, Alfreda Whitehead of Phenix City, AL, Kathelene (Burl) Levins of Columbus, GA, Joanne (Rick) Williams of Kennesaw, GA, Carmond (Deborah) Gwinn of Phenix City, AL, Curtis Guinn of Phenix City, AL, and Beverly (Webster) Luke of Powder Springs, GA; her brother, Edward Perry; her grandchildren include Charmease Canty, Shawndra Ervin, Brittany Whitehead, Lamar Williams, Germany Gwinn, Amber Whitehead, Anthony Levins, Nigeria Gwinn, Cameron Jenkins, Cana Gwinn, Cortez Guinn, Trey Williams, Tyra Luke, Jarrett Levins, and Jayden Luke. Her great-grandchildren include Devyn Canty, Kesean Guinn, Ja'nae Ervin, Averie Whitehead, Mariah Williams, Courtney Guinn, Carter Guinn, and Cayden Glover. She also leaves behind her bonus grandchildren: Destiney Woods, Alicia Blackmon, and Destinee Thomas, her nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Her family finds comfort in knowing that her legacy of love, faith, and service will continue to inspire all who knew her. Mrs. Guinnโs love for God and her family was evident in every aspect of her life, and she will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
