Loyd Cecil Jones, Jr. was born December 12th, 1958, as the eldest son to the late L. C. Jones, Sr., and youngest son of the late Lillie Mae Johnson in Cuthbert, Georgia at the home of his maternal grandmother, Carrie Francis Major. Loyd departed this life unexpectedly on January 13th, 2025, in Decatur, Ga. Loyd was preceded in death by his loving grandparents, parents, uncle Walter Jones, Jr., oldest sister Bernice Washington, older brothers-Larry & James Johnson, and younger sister Kimberly Jones.
Loyd attended grade school in both Shellman & Cuthbert, Georgia and attended Randolph County Comprehensive High School. In 1977, he completed his high school matriculation through his military service in Hawaii. He obtained his associate’s degree in business management from Phillips College in Columbus, Georgia. In Loyd’s early years, his big sister, Lodis Jackson, helped their mother raise him until he moved with his father and late paternal grandparents, Walter, Sr. and Queen Ester Jones of Cuthbert, Georgia; According to his uncle, Howard Jones & aunt Mary “Mickey” Vaughn, “Loyd was raised like their little brother,” from age 12 until he enlisted into The United States Army in 1977. While stationed in Korea, Loyd befriended fellow soldier, Cassandra Boswell, with whom he shared his first daughter, Katrina Jones Boswell. While Stationed in Ft. Polk, Louisiana, Loyd courted and married fellow soldier Karen McAlpine. From their union they raised four children: Lakesha, Lisa, Lloyd III, and Alex Jones.
Loyd was the Owner-Operator of “Jones Legacy Logistics,” and a man who believed in God & Jesus Christ. Of all his job titles, his favorite was being a proud, happy & retired grandpa. He loved to watch westerns, study civil rights movement history, listen to old school R&B music, dance, play spades and eat ice cream. He was known for his impeccable style, quick wit, charismatic personality, strong opinion, and sharp tongue. Fond memories will always remain in the hearts and minds of his loving family & friends which include his wonderful grandchildren, Christopher Baxter, Josiee, Allie & Ava Jones; loving siblings, Lodis Jackson, Chad Sr., & Billie Jean Jones; devoted best friends, Kelvin Green, Sam Brown, Willie Vaughn & Wendell “Tony” Manning; dear aunt Mary “Mickey” Vaughn & uncles Howard Jones & Willie James; adoring niece Betty Jackson, doting cousin Valerie Washington, along with a host of beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends & neighbors. Loyd never knew a stranger and was a cool dude all the way around.
