Mrs. Mamie Leona Menefee, 89, of Phenix City, AL passed Wednesday, February 1, 2023 in Columbus, GA.
Graveside service will be 1:00 p.m. EST Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery, Phenix City, AL with Pastor Steven Garrett, officiating. Visitation is Tuesday, February 7, 2023 from 1-5 p.m. EST.
Mrs. Mamie Menefee was born September 4, 1933 in Smith Station, Alabama. She was the third of five children born to Lonnie Wilson and Alzada Perry Wilson.
At a young age she moved to Phenix City and attended Phenix City Public School. She accepted Christ at an early age and attended Mt Olive Baptist Church in Smith Station.
On April 4, 1950 she married the late Dea. Benjamin Menefee, Sr., a union blessed by God that lasted 67 years. She joined Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in 1961 under the leadership of Rev. E. L. Thornton. She remained an active servant of the Lord until her passing.
Mrs. Menefee worked various jobs during her lifetime. She worked as a housekeeper, Columbus Times Newspaper columnist and Seamstress. She retired from Lesner Mills Phenix City, Alabama.
Mrs. Menefee was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Menefee, Sr.; son, Wilbur F. Menefee; step daughter, Lois Jordan; one brother, Lonnie Wilson, Jr. and two sisters, Sarah Clay and Eliza Johnson.
Survivors include one son, Benjamin Menefee, Jr.; one daughter, Arrie F. Carson both of Phenix City, AL; one sister, Mary Williams of Columbus, GA; one brother-in-law, Dea. Nathaniel Menefee; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Precious memories how they linger. A true gem, Ms. Mamie was our first pianist for the youth choice at Enterprise Baptist Church in Phenix City very patient and caring. We loved and respected her. I am so sad to hear Ms. Mamie has passed. What a sharp, talented and sweet lady. From eating her fig preserves, to listening to her talk about her hand-made quilts, I always enjoyed spending time with her. Very down to earth, warm and relatable. She will truly be missed.
