Ms. Marquitta Johnson, 71, of Center Point, AL formerly of Phenix City, AL, passed Saturday, December 23, 2023, in Birmingham, AL.
Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. EST, Thursday, December 28, 2023 in the C.T. Chapel of Taylor Funeral Home with Pastor Earl Dixon, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 27, 2023 from 1-5 p.m. EST.
Ms. Marquitta Johnson was born June 28, 1952 in Phenix City, Alabama to Mr. and Mrs. Roy Holland. Marquitta departed this life on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at UAB Hospital after a lengthy battle with gallbladder cancer.
Marquitta attended East Chicago Public and graduated from Roosevelt High School. Shortly afterward, she married Soloman Williams and had Adrienne. She later married John Screws, and, from this union, one son was born, Taylor. She also married William Johnson and became a step-mother to William Dion Johnson. As a dedicated Christian, she accepted Jesus Christ at an early age at New Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church. She spent her adult life working in the service of the Lord. At the time of her passing, she was a faithful member of Kingdom Ministries in Birmingham Alabama.
Marquitta worked for Jefferson County Health Systems for almost 30 years. Most of those years were spent in the Cooper Green Hospital Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician. She received several accolades during her tenure there. They include receiving a proclamation from the city council and having her picture on several billboards throughout the city for writing million-dollar patient care assistance grants.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her children, Adrienne L. Davis and Taylor Screws; step-son, William Dion Johnson; grandchildren, Dylan Davis, Dakota Davis, Preston Screws, Bayleigh Johnson, and Grayson Johnson; sisters, Juanita Hill (Pastor T.B. Hill), Renee Morgan (Wilbur) and Charlene Holland; brother, Roy Holland Jr.; Sister-in-law, Juanita Holland; two great-aunts, Mozell Phillips and Lilly B, plus a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Marquitta was preceded in death by her parents Roy and Lucille Holland; her grandmother Katie Bales Davis; grandfather Johnny Harmon; brothers, Willie(Doug) Holland, Anthony (Tony) Holland, and Kermit Tyrone Holland; sisters, Acrista “Lucy” Rutledge and Rosemary Holland.
