Mary Golden, 71, passed on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 in Columbus, GA.
Funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. EST on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at Friendship Baptist Church, Columbus GA. with Rev. Dr. Arthur Mitchell, Pastor, officiating. Burial to follow in Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. Public viewing is 3:00 p.m to 5:00 p.m. EST on Monday, June 9, 2025.
Mary Nell Golden, 71, of 2411 Wise Street Columbus, GA was born to Artie B. Tyson and Dorothy Kate Tyson on July 21, 1953 in Russell County, Alabama. Mary entered into her eternal home on June 4, 2025
Mary Nell accepted Christ at an early age at St. Ellis Baptist Church, Russell County, AL. Throughout her adulthood, she became a member of Friendship Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Emmett S. Aniton Jr. where she also served on Usher Board #2.
Nell as she was affectionately known as, was an absolute shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her, her journey of this earth was marked by a sense of giving, love, compassion and her unwavering faith in God.
Mary Nell was the True Life of the Party!!! Mary also took pleasure in the simple and beautiful things in life: Some of our best memories will be of her cooking good food not only for her children and family but also for the neighborhood and at any function. The impact of her presence in the kitchen resonated with us all. Her spirit continues to thrive in the cherished memories we keep close to our hearts.
Mary Nell was preceded in death by her husband, John "Big Tub" Golden, her son Christopher Tyson, her mother Dorothy Kate Tyson, sister Odell Tyson, brothers, Artie Jr., Ronnie, Mickey and Rickey Tyson
She is survived by her loving father Artie B. Tyson; sisters, Catherine, Affie, and Bernesta Tyson, all of Columbus, GA and Vivian Griffin of Phenix City, AL, two brothers Danny Tyson, Columbus, GA and Albert (Olayinka) of West Virginia. She also leaves her loving children, John (Crystal) Golden, Toshu Golden, Marcus Golden, Derrick (Chandra) Tyson, and Tamika (Courvoisiea) Mathis; grandchildren, Joseph Q. Riser, Jaquon T. Golden, Jakayla Armour, Malasia Armour, Hannah Golden, Marcus Golden Jr., Markel Golden, John T. Golden Jr. and Eddie Williams Jr. and Nick Porter and two great grandchildren, Joseph Riser Jr. and Chanel Riser.
