Visitation will be Friday, June 12, 2026 from 1 - 5 p.m. EST at Taylor Funeral Home.

Ms. Mattie Fortson was born on January 7, 1966, in Russell County, Alabama, to Mr. Lewis Fortson, Sr. and the late Mrs. Velma Fortson. She peacefully transitioned from this life on Monday, June 1, 2026, at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, Georgia.

Mattie was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Velma Fortson; her brothers, Darrell Fortson and Neil Fortson; and her nephew, Curtis.

At an early age, Mattie accepted Christ as her personal Savior. She attended and graduated from Russell County High School. Following graduation, she dedicated more than 20 years of service as a Certified Nursing Assistant, providing compassionate care and comfort to those in need.

She recently worked at Magnolia Manor of Columbus until her health began to fail, where she compassionately cared for residents and touched the lives of many through her kindness, dedication, and loving spirit.

Mattie was a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She cherished spending time with her family and found her greatest joy in the love and laughter of her grandchildren. She enjoyed watching horror movies and creating precious memories with those she loved.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving father, Lewis Fortson, Sr.; her two devoted sons, Brandon (Deanna) Fortson, Sr. and Dustin (Quintiviya) Fortson; and her eight beloved grandchildren: BJ, Jaiceon, Braylen, Briโ€™Elle, Brooke, Baileigh, Aubrey, and Ariโ€™ana.

She is also survived by two brothers, Lewis Fortson, Jr. (Sharon) and Neal Fortson; four sisters, Mary Fortson, Thelma Fortson, Tracy (Ellis) Armour, and Sandra Puckett; her special aunt, Daisy Goode; her best friend, Shonda Green; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Mattie shared a special bond with her nieces and nephews: Jarmon, Laโ€™Brandon, Jerome Jr., Gabrielle, Shamekia, Ashley, Kimberly, Alexis, Marquez, and Quanita, all of whom held a special place in her heart.

Mattieโ€™s kindness, strength, and unwavering love for her family will forever be remembered. Though she has departed from this earthly life, her legacy of compassion, devotion, and love will continue to live on through the many lives she touched.

Send flowers to the service of Mattie Fortson
