Mrs. Mattie Mae Alford, 79, of Dacula, GA passed on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 in Lawrenceville, GA.
Graveside service will be held 1:00 p.m. EST Monday, January 18, 2021 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church Hatchechubbee, AL with Pastor Roy J. Jones, officiating. Visitation is Saturday, January 16, 2021 1-5 p.m. EST
Mrs. Mattie Mae Alford was born January 19, 1941 in Russell County, Alabama to the late Mr. Wilbur Robinson and Mrs. Bessie Mae Robinson.
Mrs. Alford acknowledged Christ as her Savior as a young child and joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Hatchechubbee, Alabama. She served faithfully for many years as a Deaconess in addition to many other roles in her beloved church until her failing health required her to move into assisted living.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Mr. Elijah Alford, Jr. in July 1958. Mattie and Elijah were married for almost 52 years and their union was blessed with three children: Ricky, Ronny and Sonya. Her eldest son, Ricky Alford, preceded her in death.
Mattie was a kind Christian and mentor to many in her circle of influence. She was a lover of gospel music and her choir for many years. Even as her mind and body weakened, she would immediately brighten with patting feet and a rhythmically waving hands when her beloved gospel music was playing.
She leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her memory a son, Ronny Alford (Chandra) of Dacula, Georgia; daughter, Sonya Alford of Phenix City, Alabama; brother, Wilbur Robinson, Jr. of Riverdale, Georgia; four grandchildren, Daniel Dixon of Suffolk, England, Chantal Alford of Columbus, Georgia, and Brian and Kevin Alford of Dacula, Georgia. She also leaves a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
