Mr. McArthur “Mack” Harris, 71 of Phenix City, AL passed Monday, February 16, 2026 in Columbus, GA.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. EST, Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at Zion Hill Baptist Church, Hatchechubbee, AL with Rev. Madison Evan, pastor officiating. Burial in the church cemetery. Public viewing is Monday, February 23, 2026 from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST.
A man of profound strength and devotion, Mack was the true anchor of his family. Even as his health declined, his focus remained on cherished moments with his closest family and friends, showing everyone who knew him the meaning of “in sickness and in health” and resilience.
At an early age, Mack began his journey, trusting in God and professing Jesus as his Savior. He worked at Swift Spinning Mill for more than 25 years. After retirement, he enjoyed spending time with family, fishing, and grilling. He was a Grill Master and had great pride in his work.
Mack was preceded in death by his parents, Ozell and Lillie Mae Harris, and three of his brothers, Charlie Frank, Eddie, and Albert Harris, Sr.
Left to cherish his memory and their legacy of 50 years of marriage is his devoted wife, Debbie Jean “Penny” Harris. His children will carry on his life and love: daughters, Latyshia “Tasha” (Kaveous) Preston of Hephzibah, GA, and Laketta “Tonya” (Warren) Averett of Columbus, GA; and his son, Tyquest (Matressa) Perry of Ft. Mitchell, AL. He was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren: Shea Harris, Makayla Averett, KJ and Kaleb Preston, Tyrell Perry, and Dashawn Jones; and two great-granddaughters, Kennedi Harris and Victoria Perry.
He is survived by three brothers, ML (Angela) Harris, Danny (Jacqueline) Harris, and Douglas Harris all of Phenix City, AL; six sisters; Jackie (Timothy) Carter, Gloria (Arthur) Richardson, and Sylvia (Bobby) Hudson all of Columbus, GA; Betty Ann Austin, Bessie Jean Johnson, and Dorothy Norwood all of Atlanta, GA.
Mack is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved him dearly.
