Mr. Othell B. Winslett Sr., 78, of Columbus, GA passed Saturday, May 2, 2026 in Columbus, GA.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. EST on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 in the C.T. Chapel of Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Allen, officiating. Burial to follow at Evergreen Memorial Park, Columbus, GA. Public viewing will be from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST on Monday, May 11, 2026.
Mr. Othell Bernard Winslett, Sr., was born on October 17, 1947, in Mt. Andrew, Alabama, to Mr. Haywood Scovil and Ms. Murrie Haynes. He was lovingly reared by Mr. Walter Winslett and Mrs. Mary Winslett.
He departed this life on Saturday, May 2, 2026, in Columbus, Georgia.
At an early age, Othell joined Center Ridge Missionary Baptist Church in Midway, Alabama, where he faithfully served as Sunday School Superintendent. He was a 1965 graduate and Salutatorian of Center Ridge High School.
After many years of residing in Columbus, Georgia, he joined New Central Baptist Church in Phenix City, Alabama, and later attended McCartha Drive Church of Christ in Columbus, Georgia.
Othell was employed with Litho Krome, Inc. in Columbus, Georgia, for 43 years, retiring in 2011. He was a connoisseur of vintage cars and music and was known as one of the best upholsterers in the surrounding area. He was a jack of all trades, skilled in carpentry, auto mechanics, and many other crafts.
He was well-versed in the Bible and could righteously debate scripture with the best. He was a cancer survivor whose strength, resilience, and faith inspired many.
PRECEDED IN DEATH:
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Othell B. Winslett, Jr.; his granddaughter, Raquel Constance Wilborn; two brothers, Jamie Penkiss and Haywood Scovil, Jr.; and his sister, Ruth Haynes.
SURVIVORS:
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 52 years, Gwendolyn Winslett; one son, Carey Winslett (Stacy); and two daughters, Tiffany N. Winslett (Wilborn) and Shanna (Alexandria) Winslett.
He also leaves four grandchildren: Marc Winslett, Dominique Winslett, Amelia Wilborn, and Maximilian Wilborn.
He is survived by three brothers, Larry (Debbie) McNabb, Darrell Scovil, and Surmond Scovil; and three sisters, Jennifer (Calvin) Wilbert, Vivian (Larry) Allen, and Betty (Joe) Boykin; sister-in-law Gail Alexander.
He also leaves his mother-in-law, Ms. Betty Alexander, and a host of other relatives and friends who will cherish his memory.
