Mr. Nathaniel Jackson, 69, of Philadelphia, PA passed Wednesday, November 16, 2022 in Philadelphia, PA.
Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. EST Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Pastor Noble D. Williams, officiating. Interment to follow in Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell, AL. Visitation is Monday, November 28, 2022 from 2-5 p.m. EST.
Mr. Nathaniel Jackson, affectionately known by many as βNateβ, began life in Phenix City, Alabama on October 20, 1953 to the late Eddie B. Nickerson, Sr and Annie Will Barnes Nickerson. God called him to his heavenly home on November 16, 2022 from his physical home in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Nathaniel attended South Girard Elementary, South Girard Junior High School, and graduated from Central High School in the Class of 1972. After high school, Nathaniel joined the United States Army where he served for over 16 years. During that time, he was honored with the Parachute Badge, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Good Conduct Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Expert Qualification Badge (M-16), Second Class Qualification Badge (Hand Grenade) and the French Commando Badge.
Nathaniel accepted Christ as his personal Savior at an early age at Pine Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Phenix City, Alabama. He was currently serving faithfully at Christian Stronghold Baptist Church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Some of his service included, serving on the Culinary Committee of the Menβs Ministry as well as distributing Christian tracks in the Outreach Ministry.
He was preceded in death by: one of his sons, Ashanti Y. Jackson; three brothers, Willie Barnes, Eddie B. Nickerson, Jr., and Calvin Toombs; and one sister, Ruby Taylor.
Nathaniel leaves to cherish his memories: one son, Nathaniel Jackson, II of Columbus, Georgia; one daughter, Retina Golden of Phenix City, Alabama; eight brothers, James (Peggy) Gary, Chester Toombs, Charles (Dorothy) Toombs, Bobby (Irma) Toombs, Douglas (Linda) Nickerson, Johnny (Phyllis) Toombs, James (Missy) Toombs, all of Phenix City, Alabama and Lorenzo (Vera) Nickerson of Lanett, Alabama; three sisters, Debra Toombs, Sabrina Toombs, and Alison Pritchett, all of Phenix City, Alabama; two grandchildren, Parrish Golden and Mikayla Bennett.
