Mrs. Olivia Banks Gary, 91, of Phenix City, AL passed Tuesday, February 15, 2022 in Columbus, GA.
Graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. EST Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at Evergreen Memorial Park, Columbus, GA with Rev. David Dawson, officiating. Visitation is Monday, February 21, 2022 from 11-5 p.m. EST. A Time To Be Born Olivia Banks (Lee Lee) Gary was born March 2, 1930 in Bullock County, AL. She was the fourth child of the late Arthur and Catherine Banks. A Time To Serve She confessed Christ at an early age under the leadership of Reverend Howard at the Calvary Baptist Church in Hurtsboro, AL. Later she joined Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Phenix City, AL. She served faithfully at New Mt. Zion Baptist Church with her husband and Pastor Jessie Gary. Olivia continued to serve dutifully on several committees and ministries until her health failed. A Time To Celebrate Olivia was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Pastor Jessie Gary on December 24, 1952. A Time To Die Olivia departed this life peacefully on February 15, 2022 at Piedmont Medical Center. Her husband preceded her in death; also, three sisters, Annie Laura Banks (Clifford) Trailers, Dorothy Mae Banks (Leroy) Jackson and Mary Banks; three brothers, Tommy Banks, Taylor (Patilla) Banks, Arthur Banks, Jr.; one step-brother, Charlie Will Allen, and James Banks (God Son/Nephew). A Time To Remember Olivia received her General Educational Development diploma at South Girard School in Phenix City, AL. She started her career in the hospitality industry and excelled to Hospitality Manager at the Martinique Motor Hotel in Columbus, GA. She later served her community by establishing a home day care for many children. Olivia leaves to cherish her memories three sisters, Christine Banks (Emmett) Mahone of Phenix City, AL, Rose Lee (Roosevelt) Berry, Hurtsboro, AL and Mattie Banks, Long Island, NY; one step-sister, Pastor Dorothy (Eddie) Upshaw, VA; one step-brother, David Allen, Opelika, AL; one sister-in-law, Rosetta Banks; five caring and supportive love ones; Joann Bynam Johnson (God Daughter), Cassandra Turpin Beverly (Special Cousin), Jonathan Griffin (Dedicated Friend), Joyce Bynam Thomas (Devoted Niece), Rosa Lee Strickney (Friend) and a host of nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
