Pastor Jimmy Brooks, Sr., 76, of Phenix City, AL passed Friday, April 1, 2022 in Columbus, GA.
Graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. EST, Saturday, April 9, 2022 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Phenix City, AL. Visitation is Friday, April 8, 2022 from 1-5 p.m. EST with a family hour from 3-5 p.m. EST.
Pastor Jimmy Brooks, Sr. was born on February 24, 1946 to the late Hillie Brooks and Bessie Brooks in Russell County, Alabama. He confessed Christ at a young age at Mt. Olive Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Harris Pastor Brooks, Sr. graduated from Mount Olive High School in Ft. Mitchell, Alabama. He was married to the love of his life for 50 years, Sister Addie Davis Brooks, who he called "Brooksie".
Pastor Jimmy Brooks, Sr. worked in the grocery business for over 40 years. A&P, Seale Road Groceries, McCoy's Groceries, IGA Foods, Franks Warehouse Foods, and retired from Rainbow Foods. He also worked at Smith Gray Electric Company.
When he wasn't working (which wasn't often) he enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling with family to New Jersey, watching sports and news everyday. He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church choir, he played the trumpet in the Mount Olive High School band, he sang in a group called the "Twilights" with family and friends and praised God from Church to Church. He sang solos in many churches and performed duets with this sister and brother causing him to be well known by many.
He was called into the ministry at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Ft. Mitchell, Alabama under the leadership of Pastor Samuel Johnson. He was sent by God to Pastor at Mt. Arrie Missionary Baptist Church in Hatchechubbee, Alabama for 23 years.
Pastor Jimmy Brooks, Sr. transitioned on April 1, 2022 He is preceded in death by his parents, Hillie and Bessie Brooks; siblings, Lizzie Grady (Charles), Katie Gamble (Wilbert), Cleveland Brooks (Pearlene), Hillie Brooks, Jr. (Sadie), Curtis Brooks (Earnestine), Walter Brooks, Sr. (Sallie), Willie Brooks (Brenda), Eddie Brooks, Sr. (Mattie) and Harold Brooks (Seletha).
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Addie (Davis) Brooks; children, Angel (Brooks) Chaney, Jimmy Brooks, Jr. (Leida), Anthony Brooks (Charissa), and Felicia Brooks; siblings, Theo Brooks (Sandra) and Brenda Tarver (George); special sisters-in-law, Dora Brooks Richardson, Janice Holloway Brooks and Barbara Brooks Walton; special brother-in-law, Jim Davis (Deevy); four grandchildren, Jakwon Roberts, Adelyn Chaney, Camren Brooks, and Amya Brooks.
