Patty R. McCory was born February 5, 1957, in Phenix City, Alabama, to the late Ora Lee Drake Rutherford and the late Robert L. Rutherford, Jr.
Patty received her education in the Phenix City School System. She later became a cook and worked for 30 years in food service with L&S at Fort Benning, Georgia.
Patty accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Enterprise Baptist Church. She later moved her membership to Liberty Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Phenix City, AL where she served faithfully until her health began to decline.
Other than her parents, Patty was preceded in death by two brothers, one sister, and one great-grandson.
Patty was known by family and friends for her bright personality and warm spirit. She loved her family and was always there when she was needed. She dedicated her life to working and raising her children, grandchildren, and others who were close to her. During her free time, Patty enjoyed doing ceramics and painting. One of the things she loved most was singing in the church choir at Liberty Hill Missionary Baptist Church until her health declined.
Patty later moved to Ellenwood, Georgia, to live with her daughter, who lovingly cared for her. Patty was loved by many and will truly be missed by all who knew her.
She leaves to cherish her memories: one son, Franky Gordon (Virginia) of Rochester, New York; three daughters, Felicia Berry (Robert) of Ellenwood, Georgia; Adrienne Whitener (Jimmy) of Rex, Georgia, and Dineta Vega (Stacey) of Columbus, Georgia; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ora Elaine Lewis (Sammy) and Sarah Marshall of Columbus, Georgia, and Dorothea Lebeaux of Montgomery, Alabama; four brothers, Rodney Rutherford of Phenix City, Alabama, Calvy Rutherford (Veronica) and Jeffery Drake of Columbus, Georgia, and Zachery Drake of Detroit, Michigan; one aunt, Lizzie Drake of Columbus, Georgia, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
