Prince Williams Jr., 85, passed Wednesday, August 7, 2024 in Columbus, GA.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. EST on Friday, August 16, 2024 at Greater Shady Grove Baptist Church located at 3000 12th Ave in Columbus, GA with Dr. Marcus Gibson, pastor officiating. Interment to follow in Lakeview Memory Gardens located at 3800 280 Bypass Phenix City,AL 36867 Public viewing is 12:00-5:00 p.m. EST on Thursday, August 15, 2024.
Bro. Prince Edgar “Shine” Williams, Jr. was born on October 5, 1938 in Hatchechubbee (St. Luke Community), Alabama to the late Prince Edgar ‘Yank” Williams, Sr. and the late Maybelle Cooper. He was their oldest child and only son. After Prince graduated from Russell County Training School of Hurtsboro, AL in May 1957, he worked for the Medical Center and assisted his father on the family farm in Hatchechubbee until he decided to move to Gary, Indiana in April 1964. After moving to Gary, Prince met and married his helpmeet, Johnnie B. Fearson on April 16, 1966. Two children were born from their union. Prince retired from the United States Steel Corporation’s Gary Works plant as a crane operator and union representative with 35 years commendable service in February 2001. Being tired of the cold weather and missing their children, he and Johnnie moved back home to Phenix City in July 2008.
On May 13, 2018, Prince accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized the following Sunday at the Greater Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Columbus, Georgia.
Prince passed away from this temporary earthly life at St. Francis Hospital on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at 8:00 p.m.
Prince is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Rev. Bernice Moore and Mary Williams; his oldest daughter, Mary Ann Key; and one great-granddaughter, Rajkumari Walker.
Prince leaves behind his cherished wife of 58 years, Johnnie B. Williams; two devoted sons, Harold “Hal” (Tracy) Key of Crawford, Alabama and Tyrone Williams of Phenix City; his dedicated youngest daughter, Talaya Williams of Phenix City; six grandsons, one granddaughter, and two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Louise Williams-Bibbs of East Chicago, IN, Katie Tucker-Thornton of Columbus, GA, and Ollie Gary-Hensley of Marietta, GA; four nieces, two nephews, a devoted cousin, Shari Williams-Jordan; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, and friends.
