Ms. Sallie Grier, 99, passed on April 30, 2024 in Salem, AL.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. EST, Thursday, May 9, 2024 in the C.T. Chapel of Taylor Funeral Home with Elder James Q. Smith, officiating. Interment to follow in Lakeview Memory Gardens. Public viewing on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 from 12 - 5 p.m.
Mrs. Sallie Bell Laster Grier was born September 11, 1924 in Macon County, Al to the late Hattie Hollis and the late James Laster.
Mrs. Grier was united in marriage to the late Mr. Joe Phillip Grier. She did not birth any children of her own, however, she was blessed with four daughters by marriage who preceded her in death, Josie Mae Key, Madeline Grier, Willie Mae Robinson and Gloria Ann Hall.
She accepted Christ at an early age and united with Garners Chapel CME Church under the leadership of Rev. Booker McCoy. She dedicated her life to serving her church, exemplifying unwavering faith and compassion. As a faithful member she touched countless lives with her kindness and selflessness which included the following: a member of the missionary society and stewardess ministries. She served as President of the Senior/Junior Usher Board as well as President of the Christian Board of Education and Hospitality Ministry. Additionally, Mrs. Grier served as Sunday School Superintendent, Church Secretary and Treasurer. She also spearheaded several fundraising committees to support various initiatives including church renovations, furniture procurement and the installation of a cornerstone.
Mrs. Grier was also a member of OES #847 Wordly Matrons where she served as treasurer. In 2006 she retired from the Buck Company.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, John Hollis and Moses Hollis; four grandchildren, Roger P. Grier, Michael Key, Patricia Ann Morgan, and Joyce K. Veals.
Mrs. Grier is survived by granddaughters; Linda K. Peabody (Edward); primary caregiver, Jo Alice Cook; grandsons, Donald (Rhonda) Key, Lamar Robinson and goddaughter, Towanda K. McCurdy. She is also survived by sisters; Bythine Ivery, Malinda Harris, Clemmentine Gibson, Bertha Laster, brother Walter Harris; nephew, Joe Davis, several nieces, nephews, friends and numerous great and great great grandchildren.

Mrs. Sallie was the PILLAR that Garners Chapel was standing on. Every department in the church and more, she had been the President. She was Garners Chapel and everybody knew it and they knew her name. Sleep on Mrs. Sallie, your working down here is finished. Take your rest, you deserve it. Much prayer for your families.
