Obituary For Sarah Dawkins Gary
Ms. Sarah Dawkins Gary, 83, of Smiths, AL passed Saturday, September 5, 2026 in Columbus, GA.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. EST Saturday, September 12, 2026 at New Jerusalem Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Davis, pastor, officiating. Burial in Motts Church of Christ Cemetery. Public will view 2:00 to 5:00 p.m Friday.
Sarah Dawkins Gary was born on August 27, 1943, to the late Henry Finch, Jr. and Mary Emma Finch. She was called to Christ at an early age. Sarah was called home to eternal rest on September 5, 2026, at Piedmont Medical Center.
Sarah received her education at Wacoochee High School in Salem, AL. She loved watching her stories during the day and spending time with her family and friends. Sarah touched the lives of many people, and she will be missed dearly by her great-grand niece, Jaydah Threatts and her friend, Lois Steward.
She was preceded in death by her father, Henry Finch, Jr.; mother, Mary Emma Finch; husband, Robert Gary, Sr.; one son, Robert Gary, Jr.; one sister, Ella Wee Word; grandparents, Henry Finch, Sr. and Edna Finch and one nephew, Curtis Threatts.
Sarah leaves behind to cherish her memories two daughters, Stacey Gary and Kimberly Gary; one brother, Eddie Betties; four nieces, Joanne Ware, Beverly McCory, Tenna Wardlaw ad Kendra Diop; three nephews, Johnny Threatts, Lorenzo Betties and Anthony Betties; one grandniece, Nicole Threatts; one grandnephew, Larry Deon McCoy.
She will also be missed by her grandchildren, Yolanda Blair, Monica Gary, Darrean Williams, Nakavius Gary, Shameika Hargett, Robert Gary, III, Zanterrious Gary and X'Zila Davis; 12 great-grandchildren along with a host of great grand nieces, nephews, cousins, family members and friends.

Auntie was such a special person, and she will be greatly missed. She always had a kind word, a warm smile, and encouragement whenever I needed it. I will never forget her enthusiastic "Hey, Darliiinnng!" or seeing her faithfully sitting on that second pew at church. Those memories will always bring a smile to my face. May God surround the family with His love, comfort, and strength during this time of loss.
