Tawanda (Gail) Torbert entered peacefully into eternal rest on September 23, 2024 at home surrounded by her loving family.
Tawanda was preceded in death by her father, Johnny Jacobs of Phenix City, AL.
She leaves to cherish her memories and love: her mother, Alice Torbert (Morris Comer) of Columbus, GA; a very devoted partner, Rodney McQueen; two loving daughters, Cameron (Aisha) Torbert and Cambria Torbert; a beautiful granddaughter, Londyn Carter, all of Phenix City, AL; two sisters, Phyllis Worrell and Felicia Torbert of Phenix City, AL;one brother, Michael Akers of Columbus, GA; two special God grands, Brycen Brylei Kynard and a host of other relatives and friends.
Tawanda was such a sweet, lovable person with a heart of gold., and always willing to help anyone that she could. Although she was this fun, loving person to be around, she had her feisty moments too.
She was guaranteed to keep you laughing, and no matter which side of her, you encountered, you couldn't help but love her. Everyone that knew her, knew that the things she enjoyed other than her kids and family, were her trips to the casino, football games, and watching Family Feud and HGTV.
Tawanda was a Housing Specialist for the Columbus Housing Authority, where she worked until her health started to decline. Through her job, she had the opportunity of meeting many people and making an impact on their lives. This was evident by the number of people that always approached her to speak whenever she was out around town.
She also made a lot of friends at her job that became more like family than coworkers.
Tawanda will be deeply missed by family, friends, and all that had the pleasure of knowing her.

Tawanda-I have only known you a little more than a year. But during that time I have watched you smile when I would have fallen apart. Your strength and courage was an inspiration to all of us here at HACG. You and I were Alabama fans (the best team ever). It is hard to say bye to you but Fly high like the angel you were here on earth. I will always love and miss you.
Tawanda was a light on the rainy days. Her internal light shined brighter than anyone I have ever met. Her positive attitude and love were evident in how she interacted with you. Being "Lucy" will forever be ingrained in me. I was blessed to know her for the last 7 years and will try my best to live like T, a light. Praying for comfort and peace in the days to come for her family and friends. Losing such an amazing soul is never easy. Nicole McCollum

I have only had the pleasure of getting to know Tawanda for the last year. In that short time, her strength, determination, and perseverance helped me to not complain about life's issues and live each day to the fullest. Tawanda made me feel apart of HACG from the day she met me. I am forever grateful to have known her. May God continue to strengthen her family and give them peace during this time and the days ahead to come.

Tawanda was one of the reasons I came to the Housing Authority. She was truly a kind and loving person. She was beautiful inside and out and always made the day much better with her laughter. I will miss her greatly and life at HACG will never be the same. Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
