Tommie C. Jones, Sr., 87, passed on Thursday, June 19, 2025 in Columbus, GA.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. EST on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at Bethel AME Church, Phenix City, AL with Rev. Melissa Smith, Pastor and Rev. Wendell Jones, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing is 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST on Friday, June 27, 2025.
Tommie C. Jones, Sr. entered this life on July 17, 1937, in Russell County, Alabama, born to the late William Jones, Sr., and Jessie M. Day Jones. He peacefully departed this life on June 19, 2025, at Columbus Hospice in Columbus, Georgia.
In addition to his parents, Tommie was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Hattie M. Preer Jones; two daughters, infant Cherise Jones and Belinda Jones-Jennings; and six brothers: J.C. Jones, Paris Jones, Sr., Johnny Jones, Sr., Jimmy Jones, Robert Jones, and William Jones, Jr.
At an early age, Tommie accepted Christ as his personal savior. He became a devoted member of Pine Hill Baptist Church in Phenix City, Alabama, under the leadership of Rev. F.F. Andrews, where he faithfully served on the Deacon Board. Later, he joined his wife and family at Bethel A.M.E. Church, where he remained a member until his health began to decline.
Tommie was known as a dedicated and hardworking man. Throughout his life, he was employed by several well-known companies including Columbus Iron Works, Columbus Foundry, Golden Foundry, Bibb Textiles, and later, Bethel A.M.E. Church, where he continued to serve with dedication.
Tommie C. met the love of his life, Hattie M. Preer Jones and to this union was blessed with nine children. Survivors who will forever cherish his life are: Jessie M. (Ken) Cotman of Richmond, VA; caregiver Cynthia Jones of Phenix City, AL; Kathy (Artis) Collins of Stone Mountain, Georgia; Tommie C. (Rebecca) Jones, Jr., Vinson Jones, of Phenix City Alabama; (Ret.) Sgt. Major Darrin (Lisa) Jones of Fortson, GA; Corey J. (Jessica) of Forsyth, GA; one sister, Mrs. Dorothy Jones Harris of Paterson, NJ; three sister-in-laws, Shirley P. Cunningham of Atlanta, GA.; Dora Preer of Phenix City, AL; and Gloridean Jones of Paterson, NJ; twenty-two grandchildren, a host of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephew, and other relatives and friends.
Tommie's unwavering faith, love for family, and legacy of service will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
