Ms. Vera Elaine Allen, a loving mother, devoted grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend, departed her earthly life on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at the age of 79. Ms. Allen was born to the late Mr. Jimmie Lee, Sr. and Mrs. Lillie Mae Lee in Phenix City, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Earnestine Lee; brothers, Albert Lee; Ralph Lee; and sister-in-law, Gail Lee.
During her lifetime, she enjoyed learning and in her spare time, she loved to read, but one of her greatest passions was cooking and being surrounding by family during meals.
She confessed Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a tender age at Nichols Chapel A.M.E Church. Her love of Christ moved her to join Franchise Missionary Baptist Church as an adult under the leadership of Dr. Raymond Cochran, Sr. She was a faithful tither who participated in Bible study and Sunday school regularly until she could not. She was also a member of the choir.
She graduated from South Girard High School in Phenix City, Alabama in 1965. She attended Tuskegee Institute in Tuskegee, Alabama. Her love and compassion to help others led her to pursue a career in the health care profession as a LPN. She served many years at Cobb Memorial Hospital in Phenix City, Alabama taking care of countless of patients.
She participated in the Foster Grandparent Program and volunteered with the Phenix City Headstart program and with Meadowlane Elementary School as a foster grandparent. Vera’s children and grandchildren were her top priority. Her love for her family was immeasurable, always letting everyone know she was the “Matriarch” of the family. She was known for her sweet spirit and warm smile.
The beauty of continuous and joyous memories—those precious moments that weave together a life well-lived are cherished by her son, Christopher McCoy (Dewannia) Phenix City, Alabama; her daughter, Alyssa Scott (Damion) of Simpsonville, South Carolina; sister, Martha Jackson of Phenix City, Alabama; brother, Jimmie Lee, Jr. of Phenix City, Alabama; grandchildren, Keyon Jenkins (Shana); Brittany McCart; Alivia Scott; DaMya Scott; Christian McCoy; great grandchildren, Isiah; Jaden; and Kingston; countless of nieces, nephews, and relatives.
