Vernell Parker Harris, 77,of Phenix City, AL passed on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 in Phenix City, AL.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. EST, Thursday, February 12, 2026, at Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 201 S. Seale Rd., Phenix City, AL, with Pastor Noble D. Williams, officiating and Rev. James Parker, eulogist. Interment to follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. Public visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 11, 2026.
Vernell Parker Harris was born February 28, 1948 in Phenix City, AL to the late James Dempsey Parker, Sr. and the late Essie Mae Deloney. On Tuesday, February 3, 2026 God in his infinite wisdom, wrapped Vernell in his loving arms and enfolded her in his love.
A Time to Keep - A Time to Laugh
As a child Vernell was affectionately known as “Cookie” but as she got older she was just “Von” or “Miss Von”. Vernell attended Mother Mary Mission Catholic School as a child and she was a 1967 graduate of South Girard High School. She worked at Wade Cleaners for a number of years before she finally worked and retired from Oak Manor Nursing Home in Columbus, GA.
Vernell was an active member of her church, Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she served on the Usher board, Mission Ministry and Senior Ministry.

Those left to cherish her memories include four children, Stephanie (Elijah) Nash, Columbus, Ga, Bennie Smith, Phenix City, AL, Kenya Smith, Phenix City, AL, Adrienne Smith, Opelika, AL; five stepchildren, Freddie Lee Harris, Jr., Columbus, GA, Wanza (Yolanda) Harris, Birmingham, AL, Arnold Harris, Columbus, GA, Josetta Harris, Columbus, GA, and Octavius Banks, Atlanta, GA.
