Walter Green Jr., affectionately known as "PJ," was born on July 22, 1947, in Lee County, Alabama, to the late Mazell Thomas and Walter Green, Sr.
On Wednesday, April 1, 2026, he peacefully answered the Lord's call to eternal rest at his home, trusting that the battle was not his, but the Lord's. He was preceded in death by four siblings: Andrew Green, Sr., Genelle Frazier, Henry Thomas, and Ronnie Green.
Walter grew up in a large, close-knit family as the fourth oldest of eleven children. He gave his life to Christ at an early age and remained a devoted member of Concord Missionary Baptist Church in Salem, Alabama. He received his education at Wacoochee School in Salem, Alabama.
Walter dedicated 30 years of service as a truck driver with TSYS (Columbus Production) before retiring. Outside of work, he had a deep love for racing and fishing. He found great joy at the drag strip, out on the water with a fishing rod, and most of all, spending time spoiling his beloved grandson.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 53 years, Shirley Cochran Green of Smiths Station, Alabama; one daughter, Melissa Green of Smiths Station, Alabama; one cherished grandson, Quinton Johan Dixon, Jr. of Smiths Station, Alabama; two brothers, James Green and Roy Green of Smiths Station, Alabama; and four sisters, Judie (Clinton) Davis of Smiths Station, Alabama, Betty Green of Columbus, Georgia, Odell Green, and Everlena (William) Hodge of Phenix City, Alabama. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends who loved him deeply.
